What do the dots on the bottom of potato chip bags mean?

They're on every single bag of potato chips that I've ever seen, and I have no clue what they mean. For some reason I got it in my head that they indicated the different coloured inks on the bag.

Could not find an answer to your specific question but did find a lot of sites (see below - and there are more) about package labeling.

Don't have any chips with me to look at but will check my ones at home for the dots you mentioned.

they do they show the colours used tomake the design usually CMYK Cyan Magenta Yellow and K stand for Black
