If you and your lady is going into a building and someone on the other side of the door is there who doesn't like you want to punch you, and you allow your lady to go first, well she catches the punch and you will have time to give your punch or you get a head start in your trot away, leaving your lady and ending your relationship, unless she don't mind catching your punches.

Hello Puja,
A woman is special cause she is the reason for human kind to prevail on earth. So, a lady is the best. So, men are supposed to respect them and this is a gesture to show their respect. This is my honest answer.
Another answer is Gals love attention and compliments which we guys don't care about much. When a lady is given first preference by a guy she is swept off her feet and she likes the attention he is providing her. So it is often used by guys to get things done the easier way :-)

The answer is very simple...
Look...why the lades are best is somewhat in a fusion with a thought that man think (I like this girl/woman and I don't wanna mess up our relationship...hmmm maybe I can start by making her life a little easier and better feeling ...opening doors or...telling her nice things about her that are true...maybe this will help that a girl likes me in some sort...)
We don't wanna *pause*...be in a conflict with the other race cos' in the back of our mind's we need them...*we cannot live without them...(if you are a heterosexual).We want to console them when needed...it only takes us time in the early day's to start thinking like that...but remember...not every man will do as written here...I try but...again you must remember that *sigh* not all women will respect you for the trouble you do to be in a good relation...
But HEY!!!That's life....

Because a lady carried you in her belly for 9 months and then gave birth to you (with a lot of pain) and then woke up in the middle of the night for you until who knows when. Have some respect! Women go through a lot and deserve the respect. Stop being such a chauvenistic pig!

Ladies first doesn't mean ladies are best. Consider it civility, plain old chivalry or courtsey, a man profers the first chance to the weaker sex. She might not be strong enough to fight with a man for advantage.
