See what kind of toilet you have, then go buy a kit compatible to yours. It should have directions in it. It is a pretty simple job, just make sure you turn the water off and drain the tank. Good luck.`

What parts? Everything including the fill valve, flush valve, flush lever, and flapper?
Fluidmaster is the best for flush valve. 400-A will fit almost any toilet and takes less than 1/2 an hour to change out. Korky (blue) flapper is best for most applications. Fill valve - you may need to buy from manufacturer (Kohler, American Standard, Mansfield, etc. ) While you have the water off, it's a good idea to change the supply hose out for a stainless steel flex if you don't already have one.
All kits come with diagrams and instructions - easy to do - and much easier than trying to explain w/o pictures.
GOOD LUCK :)

There are three parts the flush handle, the fill valve and the flapper. First you do the obvious shut off the water and empty the tank. I use a Fluid Master fill valve it comes with very clear and easy instructions. The old one comes off easily by unscrewing the nut on the bottom of the tank and removing the supply line, its a good idea to replace this line too. Next remove the flapper it hooks on at the base of the over flow pipe and it connects to the flush handle by means of a chain the handle is optional to change .If it's badly corroded change it . Next the chain on the flapper which connects to the flush handle should have a minimum of slack adjusted by using the right link. Your done!!

the major parts can be bought in a kit, which are usually are that are needed to change the parts. Unless you need washers around the bolts that secure the tank to the toilet. Make sure the water is shut off completely before beginning and plenty of old rags to dry up any water that might leak on the floor while working on your project.

first: TURN OFF THE WATER!!
2nd: flush the toilet to empty the tank
3rd: use paper towels to soak up any water left in the tank
next: disconnect water supply line to tank
then loosen the brass or nylon nut that holds the works in the tank.
remove the inner works.
get new works and install according to instructions on package. NOTE: always use a new gaskets to prevent leaks
don't try to over tighten the nuts or screws, make them very snug. too tight will damage the gaskets or the tank.
re-attach the water line and tighten that tight. you might have to adjust the float (if its got one) to turn off the water at the right level. turn on water, let it fill and try flushing it a few times.
