For one thing, Australia got the prisoners and the U.S. got the Puritans. That makes for an interesting difference, but that's what it is...difference. One country is no better than the other.
Along with differences, there are similarities. Australians are adventurous, with a great sense of humor. We like that in the U.S., because it is adventure that caused us to open up the West and explore space. Both Australians and Americans like freedom of spirit, freedom of individuality, and the freedom of each person to choose his or her own path.
Is one country better than the other? No. Australia has not had the tremendous financial benefits the U.S. has had, has not become a Super Power, with all the problems this entails. They are facing all of this in the future as their population rises, their resources are developed, and that far corner of the world reaches its full potential.

Better in what way? I'm sure there are many things about Australia that are good, but I would not say it is "much better", just different in their own way.

Because there is less people to create less problems. I wish our country was a little more laid back and lazy like Australia, people would be in a better mood. Who knew a country settled by a bunch of English criminals would be so great?
