The McCanns have threatened to sue a Portugese reporter who implied that Mrs McCann may have murdered her.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=477214&in_page_id=1811&ct=5
A source for the McCanns said.
"Both the McCanns are hard-working, law abiding professionals. It is very important to protect their reputation."
"The source said the McCanns have access to Portuguese libel lawyers and were prepared to go through the courts."
What I would like to know is
1) WHO is paying for these lawyers that they have access to. It better not be a penny from the Find Madeleine fund.
2) Why are the McCanns jumping up and down threatning to sue all and sundry who dare question them??
They doth protest too much methinks ......... (as another poster on here regularly says)

I hope they do sue the Portugese TV station, and I hope the station fight the charges, and hopefully a few ugly facts may come out that the McScams dont want people to know about.

The McCanns remind me of a losing boxer in the 12th round, he's already been knocked down and now he's just swinging wildly hoping a shot connects. The end is nigh for them .........

Mac - Actually it must be impossible to sue someone and look for Madeleine because early on when I questioned the McCanns I was getting shot down in flames with people stating 'Lets just find Madeleine first then worry about whether the parents were right or wrong after.' So why can't we multi-task that as well? Seems to me if they are worried 'about their reputations' then they cant be grieving too much.
If you were desperately looking for your daughter, would you spend your time consulting lawyers to protect your reputation? These two are pathetic.
FAITH - The thought of me being worried is laughable.

I think they should concentrate on the more important problem to hand right now and that is finding their daughter. Forget everything else Mr and Mrs McCann - your daughter is the most important thing here.
If they really want to sue them do it later when their daughter has been found.

Don't be daft Dave you know where the money will come from.
GMTV said this morning that the police are now convinced that Maddie died in the apartment in an accident. OK I can go with that. What I can't handle though is how the hell she managed to hide her own body and clean up so no one would know. Or if someone broke in through an open door why do they take the dead child ? Maybe the supporters know how Maddie managed this, or why the burglar took a dead child oh and cleaned up as well.
How do the McCanns manage to get so many letters of sympathy and support. Why does nobody send them mail saying the opposite as on here. Surely they must know what people must think, they are not thick are they.? Surely being a doctor doesn't protect you from everyday life or different opinions. I would like to send them a letter which would empathise for the loss of their child but one that wouldn't exonerate them from all wrong doing. You would think after everything, the McCanns would stay well clear of any courtroom just in case the judge had the same feelings about neglect as they rest of us.

I suppose suing is the most they can do to protest their innocence at this time, because in the absence of any real concrete evidence about whether Madeleine is even alive or dead, they have very little to use in their defence other than "I didn't do it".
I am not saying they did or didn't. It would be pretty irresponsible of a journalist to put in writing that they thought Mrs McCann murdered her daughter without any proof. I agree the whole thing is very bizarre, and there are plenty of unanswered questions here, but that journalist has made a grave error in putting his/her professional name (and that of his/her newspaper) behind an accusation like that.
However, I don't see how they could sue at this point with any success until the actual fate of Madeleine is discovered. After all, the journalist could turn out to be right. The only time to sue would be after the outcome is known, so from that perspective I do agree that they should be concentrating on the task at hand, rather than thinking about lawsuits. After all, their daughter is still missing.

It's very sad they are forgetting the principal thing in all this: to find Madeleine. But it's even sadder that her parents are the first to forget what it should be their priority number one. Here there're people a lot more concerned about Maddie than her own parents and that's what get me mad about all this.

Yet another SPAM false "question" designed to keep the hate pot boiling. WHAT is wrong with you? 10s of 1000s of questions all very similar and perhaps 30,000 low level witless "answers" all to keep hate going against a family who have lost a child. I will never understand you "people

Could prove to be a fascinating court case. The onus will be on the McCanns to prove that the allegations against them are untrue. That could lead to some very embarrasing questions being asked.

Protecting their reputation - hasn't that been the problem all along?
How can they even think of legal action when they are supposed to be devastated that their daughter is missing, possibly dead?
If they go to court some very nasty little truths will emerge, not least that the children were left alone every night - what would that do to their reputations? Since they wish people to believe they were checking on the kids every few minutes. I believe they are bluffing. Besides did the reporter SAY Kate Mccann had killed her daughter? The answer to that, is NO!

My thought is that if my son was missing, I'd have more important things on my mind than filing suit for defamation. Besides, civil suits are subject to a statute of limitations (commonly measured in years). What's the hurry?
I have no information as to who is sponsoring the suit. No ethical attorney should be accepting moneyfrom the "find Madeleine" fund. I would tend to doubt that they're using it for that.

They should be in jail for neglect. Leaving a child alone in a hotel room what did they expect? They shouldn't even be in the news right now unless their daughter is found either dead or alive!

If some scuzzy Portuguese tabloid was making allegations of me murdering my child, I too would sue the pants off them. Why shouldn't they? Where they get the money from to pay for a lawyer is there business, not ours. By the way, have you donated to the fund personally? I doubt it.
