Some people choose it because they're looking to better their lives or they're simply curious about it. Some people get sucked in by a "free personality test" or because a so-called friend tells them to check it out "just once". After that, they're cajoled into taking courses and going through Scientology's "auditing" (which is "talk therapy" while holding two tin cans connected to a skin galvanometer, and no, that isn't a joke).

I don't trust it because it's a dangerous, manipulative, lying, scamming cult, and despite their insistence that it's all just "media hype", there are court documents, recorded deaths and the words of their own prophet (L. Ron Hubbard) to substantiate every description I've just given.

I have chosen Scientology because it works. I apply the techniques of Scientology and I get improvement.

Some dislike or mistrust it due to the misleading information spread by people who don't know how to apply Scientology.

Why do some people oppose Scientology?

Probably the same as any religion.

Some people might like the fact that instead of saying something like "10% of your income" and "give up everything to get to the top of it" like christian religions, it has flat rates. :)

Most people just take the first two courses (the cheaper ones) for Communications, and How to Study Better. Then they quit. Which is easier to do than with many other religions. And thats what I did. Great courses. Better than most of the (more expensive) college courses I took.

One thing I will say is that everybody I saw in it seemed very happy and honest. And I didnt see any of the "cult" stuff I read about.

It is a cult. It is evil. It is dangerous.

The following links are news stories about a girl with schizophrenia, whose parents refused to allow her to take her medication because they were Scientologists. She had a severe psychotic episode because she wasn’t on her meds and killed her father and sibling, almost killing her mother too.

Did you know Scientologists believe they have the right to torture or kill ‘Suppressive Persons’ (SP) people who oppose Scientology?

It is utterly inane and stupid. it does not even have internal logic and it's theology is a bad Sci-Fi story!

In that of course, it differs little from any religion, but it's mythology was created within living memory, and you can actually check up on the dodgy geezer who dreamt it all up! Hence it has less credibility than 'mainstream' cults like Xtianity!

Because its very wealthy founder is on record as saying - just before he founded his new religion - that the best way to make yourself very wealthy is by founding a new religion.

Do you see how this works?
