Now what kind of bat are we talking about here?

If theres 5 or 10 of you walking with bats miles away from any baseball field and you have no other baseball gear, Yea! I would probably say that's illegal. The cops might call it (reasonable suspicion) which is all they need to at least confiscate your bats and even possibly throw you in jail. The fact that you are asking this question tells me you probably were not with a group playing the game of baseball, for which the baseball bat is supposed to be used for.

It could be considered a weapon depending on the circumstance and how it was being displayed at the time an officer queried you.

its doubtful you could potentially train a wild creature like that to walk with you, especially since they are nocturnal as a rule and live in caves.
