Of course getting chosen as the Best answer and stars on questions are the two most motivating factors..... on a day I receive more stars and Best answer rewards, I am much more enthusiastic in my participation. But I also love this Philosophy section where I find such interesting questions and answers which never fail to add a new thought or perspective to my own ideas and views.

I would "keep going" regardless of stars, (not that I ask many questions), or getting best answers. I enjoy the interchange of so many really special people. I star questions that I answer because I chose them for their interest, & want to share them with others to answer. Of course I'm pleased when someone chooses my answer, because this tells me I've been able to "reach" them. The most enriching is when I get a personal email thanking me for insight & new perspectives. There are two reasons why I'm here--to help if I can, & to learn from others.

it makes me feel good about myself if my answers are chosen as best and my questions starred; it means i make sense. and i love learning from answerers. some give very insightful answers, some have very witty answers, and others gave some that make me really stop and consider them. in a way, this is an educational site, minus the bantering and insultingly sarcasms. =)

"Best answer" is the only "ego-stroke" for me...your "question" is not being measured against anyone else's question, so starring means nothing to me...

Being starred doesn't mean anything...If you want, I'll just "star" all your questions whether I like them or not, 'cause all I have to do is point and click...if it's that easy, everybody's friends and family would just routinely star their questions, so the star measure is superfluous...

Getting "best answer" meant that you competed against others for the "grand prize" and won...

So..."starring" means nothing...and measures nothing...it's just a pat on the back...

"Best Answer" means something...it's saying, hey! out of all those answers from other people, you're was the best...it's competition...starring is just "Gee! Look at me!

In a ay I think it does. It makes me feel good that my answer was picked and that I did a good job and people liked it. Though I also just enjoy answering questions that my help someone with a problem that needs solving.

Boredom in my work and lack of enthusiasm for starting a project I really don't want to do.

I'm delaying the inevitable.
