I'm breastfeeding my baby & apparently what I ate for dinner has given him terrible gas :( Does anyone know how long or how many feedings it takes for it to no longer be in the breastmilk? Sorry, I didn't know how to word that...I have fed him about 4 times since and after each time he still appears to have gas. I just pumped and dumped. When do you think it will no longer be affecting him? I'm trying to drink a ton of water to flush it out. Help, he is screaming his poor little head off!

It should take a couple of hours. Definately have mylicon drops on hand because they help a lot. In the early weeks, it is common for your baby to be upset. For me, the offending foods were any tomato product- sauce, veggie, juice. broccoli, chocolate, and caffeine. All babies are different.

I reintroduced those foods at 4 months of age- and she was fine. Now I eat whatever I want and she is ok.

Don't give formula- it will hamper your milk supply and will also give the baby- who is used to digesting breastmilk because it is easy to break down-MORE tummy aches. Not less.

Good luck- I know how hard it is to go through this.

HUGZ!

Well, first of all, what you eat can't give your baby gas. Even if you ate beans! Fiber is not passed on through breastmilk and babies even like garlic breastmilk better! Did you drink coffee? That could give him gas. I'm sure it's something else like if he ate too fast or if he didn't burp enough.

Poor little Boo Boo! It should be out by now! Maybe he's a little constipated. How old is he? Get some mylicon drops... they are very safe. Put him on your lap, tummy down and pat his back. You might want to give him a Playtex nurser with some watery soy formula (about 3 ounces) or breastmilk with Karo Light syrup mixed in (about 1 teaspoon - 2 teaspoons) to soften his stool. Hope your little guy is better soon! Awww.... ;-D

Peace.

Did you eat broccoli or eggs? It took me a while to figure it out but whenever I ate eggs my little one would scream all day long. Try lying him on his back and very gently push both knees up to his chest, this can help relieve the pain.
