I am expecting a baby boy for early November and, in order to save money and make it a bit more personal, would like to design my own birth annoucement card. I am looking for ideas, possibly websites to give me inspiration. I would just like to add that the design would have to be fairly simple and the writing short as it will have to be in 2 languages. (French, my mother tongue as well as English!)
I will be very grateful for any tips from you, artistic people! Thanks in advance!! :-)

Miss Piggy, I see your point, but you can't put a phone call on the fridge! :-)

I design things like this as a hobby/home job. You should consider incorporating your nursery theme and/or colors into the birth announcement.

To use both languages without it appearing cluttered, you could do one in the background in a larger font, but faded color and the main language in the foreground in a darker color. I could show you an example of what I mean if you do not understand.

I am in the process of designing the birth announcements for the daughter we are currently (anxiously!) awaiting the arrival of. I prefer to keep it simple and classic. Right now, I am trying to decide whether to use color or black and white or possibly a combination of both.

One idea you could do is to simply print his birth statistics on transfer paper, and then iron it onto a onesie and take his photograph with him wearing the onesie (which displays his name, birthdate, weight, length, etc.). The picture itself could be the birth announcement, or you could mount it onto cardstock and use ribbon, etc. to make it more elaborate.

Have fun!

When our baby boy came along nine weeks ago we wanted something personal, but without having to write too much. We used MS Publisher to design a card and used photos from his first day as the cover and back picture. Inside we put the detail of the birth. If you want to use two languages, you can always use both "inside" pages.

Kodak Easyshare cameras come with some awesome software and an online gallery where you can order some beautiful announcements, including some Martha Stewart designs. Order a couple or a bunch! You decide, plus they always email coupons and free offers. Its so cooool!

I painted up loads of blank postcards and just wrote the babys name across the middle. They can be painted and addressed and stamped before you give birth then you just need to add the name after.

Or scan a first picture of your baby and make that into postcards/cards, again do as much of the work before your baby is born then it wont take up unnecessary time after.

I ordered mine, but they were really cute. It had a pair of baby shoes at the top of the card, and said "Someone new has stepped into our lives". Then all the info followed. I got them from Stork Avenue, online, but you may be able to look at more to get ideas. They also had some that said "Our home has grown by two feet". I thought they were really nice.

We just used a photo stuck on some cardboard with all the details underneath. Doesn't sound like much, but 2 years on, they are still stuck on my family's fridges!

You can goto a scrapbook website and buy a kit and use it to make annoucement cards. Some good scrapbook websites are : www.theshabbyshoppe.com, www.the-lilypad.com.

If you want to save time, goto http://www.daisiecompany.com , where you will find many ready made cards to print, and they are incredibly adorable.

how about using one of your scan pictures as the image with a simple text such as 'hello everyone' or 'nice to meet you'
