I am quite shocked by that train of thought - it would defy belief anyone would just dump a child's body in order to cover up an accidental overdose of sleeping medicine. It must be more than that going on here....

Possibly Kate and Gerry knew that the other 2 kids would be taken away and that they would go to prison if the owned up and told the police how Maddy had died, they panicked, didn't want the twins to be taken away and devised some sort of plan...

I think that this could be a possibility. I thought I remember reading that the McCanns actually stated that they had in the past given Maddie sleeping medicine because she was prone to sleepwalk. I don't remember where I read that though. I know it seems crazy to think that a parent could hide their child's dead body to save their own skin, but it happens here in the U.S. all the time. A few examples.. There was a woman found last month to have the bodies of 3 or 4 infants hidden in her home. I also read a story the other day about a woman who left her 4 year old and 1 year old in her hot car, where they died from the heat and their bodies where found in garbage bags hidden under her kitchen sink. Also, how about these young women who have babies in secret and then throw them in the trash. It is difficult to believe that a parent would hide the body to save themselves, but it happens all the time. It's just sad.

It's still all speculation although there is perhaps some circumstantial evidence. The reality however is that should such a mistake have been made then jobs and lifestyles for a whole group of people would be at risk, and who know what might be done to protect that.

Certainly drugs like PHENERGAN can be fatal for young children and several warnings have been issued to the medical profession. It is a drug used to sedate children and also has clinical use in the control of nausea. There are clear warnings that it should not be administered to children who are vomiting and not to 2 year olds and under and with great care to any under 16s.

Ah but, if Madeleine got hold of the bottle herself and took all the contents??? That would kill her would it not? Depending on the contents in the bottle. And how do you explain the sedative in the body fluid/hair? *edit* They would have covered it up, in a panic, in fear of it coming out that they sedated all their kids to make them sleep, as all the three children would have been tested and they would have been struck off, and the twins removed. I know the hair would prove sedatives were given at some point only, but without a medical record of some such prescription, back at home in HER GPs records, it would prove the McCanns took it upon themselves to decide to sedate the the child. And even Dr parents arnt allowed to do that. She would need a diagnosis of something like ADD for her GP to precribe a sedative. Sometimes they will for a long journey, but I imagine most GPs would say dont sedate your child for a plane journey, its fun and they should experience the fun of a plane ride.

I am ashamed to say that when the story first broke, that was my very first thought.
We see cases on the TV so often where the ones pleading for the return of a loved one have actually been the perpetrators of the crime, that it is now in a lot of peoples minds to jump to this conclusion when these awful things happen.
In an awful sort of way wouldnt it be better for her to have gone this way through an accidental overdose, than to have been abducted? and have been subjected to possibly mental, physical and sexual abuse?
Its all very disturbing whatever the cause.

No. Not at all.

I am sure IF her parents had used anything to help those babies sleep it would have been no more than calpol. Sometimes babies with belly ache or tooth ache need a little bit to get off to sleep. I know most parents with small children have this product in their cupboards. Most of my friends have used it for colds, teething, high temparature etc. It's baby medicine. I am sure two doctors would not overdose it.

And IF it was anything else, a more powerful drug, there is no way the parents , and all those friends would be able to cover that up. Someone would have said by now.

Its all speculation and part of the hate campaign against Dr's McCann.

If they wasn't Doctors this idiotic rumour would not exist.

Drugs overdosing is a very serious think especially for a bunch of doctors. They face prison, their children going into care, their names over all the newspapers and TV etc etc. It is much easier for them all to cover up the death and play along with the abduction theory, burglar theory, taken to Spain theory.... any old theory to protect their own selfish backs. Also the reason why the twins never woke up during the hours of commotion was because they hade been drugged too.,but poor Maddy didn't survive. The truth will come out in the end .There will be justice for Maddy.

I agree with you .I hope that is not the case ,but it would explain a lot.I wish they had been more careful, all of this could have been so easily avoided. How much substance would kill a child though ?Perhaps there was enough to make her sleep and then an intruder, entered the scene. It scares me to think of what could have happened to Maddie. What Parents would think of removing a body like that, especially Doctors.I couldn't invisage them doing that .How would they live with theirselves afterwards and face their twins.?If Maddie had been drugged she wouldn't have been able to cry for help !

This theory has been around a long time. It did seem to fit. We'll just have to wait for the official verdict.

This is a possibility, I had never thought of something like this before, giving the kids sleeping medicine, so they wouldn't wake up while they were out!!
