Boyfriend bought first property for his business he wants to start and I am responsible for painting this room. The trim is wood with old paint already on it! The people before didn't do a good job trimming! It's not real bad but I really want it to look good and I have masked all the trim so it doesn't get worse snd add more paint to the problem! So how do you take old paint off of wood window and door trim without ruining the wood? Also, in what order would you go to turn a room around into something better, well where do you start first? Please help I am not sure!

Paint stripper is the safest way to remove the paint but it is not an easy job unless the wood had been coated with polyurithane or something like it. You have to brush the stripper on the area that you want the paint removed, wait like 15min to 1/2 hour for it to begin lifting the paint, and depending on how thick the paint is it may take several coats of stripper. Once the paint starts to peel then you use a scraper to scrape the paint away. Once the paint is all off, you must sand it smooth. then you can stain it or whatever you want. One thing to remember though is that if the wood was not stained or coated previous to the paint being applied then the paint will have soaked into the wood and stain will never take. this is a long process but if done correctly it will turn out nice. Also you could buy a heat gun to strip the paint but you always run the risk of scorching the wood and if this happends you will be repainting the trim anyway. My best advise is to just paint the whole room. if your going to paint the trim a different color than the walls then one thing to remember is that its easyer to repaint or touch up the walls than the trim, Trim last. Also the trim on windows and doors can be the normal trim color your using and along the wall area of the trim can be the color of the wall so basically your just painting the face of the trim the trim color and the edges the wall color, this saves alot of time. cielings are suppose to be white, it gives it more of a sence of height than if you paint it the wall color. If you paint it the same color as the walls it will feel like your bringing the ceiling down lower. If your doing anything with the floor do it last its much easyer to touch up paint than to get paint out of carpet or off of the floor surface. so Ceiling, walls, trim, floor. Also buy an edge brush its a flat rectangle with wheels on one edge it makes it alot easyer to paint the edge between the wall and the ceiling.
Good luck.

Beyond door jambs and actual window frames, I'd probably replace the molding. Strinng installed molding indoors will be messy for one thing, and take as much prep time and labor as will the eventual paint job. Sanding every piece of molding is also labor intensive,

This sounds like a NEW venture, why not add NEW to what also sounds like the place where business will be conducted.

"Turn a room around" First of all it should probably be determined what the room willl be used for. Obviously there are different treatment options for showrooms/ offices/ customer waiting rooms/breakrooms/supply rooms, etc.

Without knowing the type of business or the reason for acquring the building and property; it's difficult to advise in any way but generalizations. Certainly Paint is one of the easiest/fastest/most economical ways to make a room look and feel NEW.

There are a lot of good paint strippers on the market, but be aware its a messy process and should be done with care. Cover the floor, wall and what ever else you don't want to mess up. I prefer the gel types. As long as your freshly painted and the floor covering is in good shape its all about decorating, furniture, window treatments, pictures, certificates and the like.
