Recently I've discovered that I have something (not sure if it's considered a lump) in my left armpit (when I press it, it doesn't sink in.. and when I press the center of my right armpit, it sinks in). It doesn't hurt when I press it, but only if I press it really hard. I don't have any lumps near my breasts, and there aren't dents or abnormalities with them, so it's just in the armpit.

I'm 17, and my family has no history of breast cancer. I'm not sure if I'm just scaring myself.. but I'm really worried about it. I'm not sure if it just developed recently or if it has been there for a while already..

I would recommend letting your mom know what is going on and also have this evaluated by your doctor to see what they say.

When I fell pregnant for the first time in my early 30s I found two lumps. They were extremely sore and I had them checked out. I felt scared and didn't really want to know the outcome due to fear but I obviously needed to know. They were fibro-ademonas (not sure of the spelling). They are non-malignant and apparently go away as you get older. I have no idea how long they were there but then flaired up with every pregnancy (I now have 3 kids).
You MUST get them checked out; don't delay this. See your doctor who will give you a referral. Good luck and better to know than not....after my experience.

80% of breast lumps turn out to be nothing.

The best thing you can do is go see your doctor and push to have it checked out. DON'T just leave it alone if your doctor says not to worry about it. Just because of your age and the fact that there is no family history doesn't guarantee you it's not cancerous or precancerous. There are women who post on the forums at breastcancer.org who where in their late teens when they where diagnosed.

Go get it checked out, odds are it's nothing, but if it does turn out to be something the sooner you get it taken care of, the better.

There are no statistics that I can find for breast cancer at your age. therefore virtually unknown-

much more likely to be a small gland from spot in armpit from shaving-probably again of no concern.

It cannot do any harm however to see your doctor to set your mind at rest

teenagers rarely get breast cancer, and additionally, no one else in your family has a history of breast cancer...
this makes it rather improbably for you to get breast cancer...
but not impossible... but if its reassuring, i don't think it's anything...
the swelling in your armpit could be an enlarged lymph node or just a skin swelling...

but if you're worried about it, it's best you see a doctor who'll be able to confirm if it means anything...
