Taxes are the new buzz word these days. It seems that once you buy something it should be yours. But, if they called it a "use" tax would it be different? One way or another... well, you know!
The IRS is getting a lot of press these days and people are starting to question it. See Ron Paul for president or look up Ron Paul on YouTube to see what he has to say. But no, I don't not think the irs is a criminal racket... just well protected.
Now, on the subject of benefits.... I use some (by that I mean that the Police keep my highways safe, patrol our neighborhoods but that is state... I have not used a Federal ben yet and when I do it will be the SS that I paid while working).... but if you are not using Federally funded programs, is it right to have to pay for them when you are paying for your own stuff?

you are perfectly correct
btw, count your blessings. The real taxation level in my country (Poland) is 68%
this being the difference between the cost of hiring someone and the amount of money they actually get
Of course, in return we get "free" health care (and a 6 year waiting line for an operation) and "free" retirement pay - about 1/3 of the legal minimum wage, and far less than the daily keep for criminals in prison.

Yes we are serfs. if we don't pay they take and surly not give us the equity we have in it, they just take it and thus rob us of the rest of the money we put in it.
Yes it is a racket. private property was never to be taxed according to the constitution or bill of rights from what I understand. Also if they can tax our private property (wages, land houses cars) then that means they own us as far as they are concerned since they are supposed to serve the people not the other way around.
So we are basically slaves, as you are not soverign over yourselves, if you were soverign you wouldn't have to pay taxes on personal property, or obey personal safety laws such as seat belts. and you wouldn't need permission to defend ourselves if attacked. You wouldn't have to wear helmets or other victimless situations. what they are doing is protecting their property (you) from injury so you can be alive along time so they can profit off you.
Why do you supposed there is a drug war on pot? as long as you don't hurt others by driving or smoking around others who dont want it, what is the reason for restricting it? to keep you suitable to work. other drugs? same. as long as you don't hurt others. also drug wars gives them an excuse to deny people their rights and to search and seizure without the normal checks and balances. to snoop on your without warrants.
actually it is an excuse to install a police state as you need a state of war for the constituion to be put a side, trouble is the founders meant armed armies invading or civil war. We have war on obesity war on drugs, war on poverty, any kind of war to keep justifying putting aside the rights of people.. but have you noticed we have tons of wars in the usa but none abroad, they call iraq a surge or conflict but never was a war declared by congress. funny how wars pop up so much here but never abroad. I wonder why?
maybe someone can explain that one to me.

But look what you get for your money. All those taxes are used to
Strengthen bridges, no wait, build roads, no sorry, ah got it now,
build bombs and weapons and hire lots of other young men that you use to invade other countries (This is called a military and needs lots of tax dollars). You also have police on the streets and judges to throw you in jail if, well, if you don't pay your taxes for instance. You have the FBI, the CIA, the NSA and lots of other acronyms for your tax dollars. And you don't have to put up with having stuff given to you for free e.g. health care, legal aid, decent welfare and training opportunities, education, pensions (we get a lot of these things in Europe for our tax Euros).
See it's all worth it in thegood old US of A where every man fights for himself and can be free and independent of any government control. You were founded on principles of government of the people, by the people, for the people but now it just government control of most of the people, by a minority of rich people, for a minority of rich people.

Yes, the IRS (and much of the govt ) is just a legally authorized criminal syndicate -- such is the nature of any govt.
