I have a large schefflera in a big pot in my house. She is about three years old and is one of the ones that has about four or five long stalks about 2-3 feet tall with lots of the five leaf clusters, but in the last few months the leaves have been falling off. They don't turn yellow and die, they just get limp and dull looking and droop and then fall off. She is really getting bald looking, or like she's been through a hurricane. I have given her miracle gro and moved her for some more sun, but nothing seems to help. Anyone have any suggestions about what's wrong with her or what could help? I am really worried about her.

Usually limp leaves signal overwatering and these plants don't need alot of fertilizing. Also these plants don't need full sun. have you checked for bugs both on the plant or in the bottom of the pot? Could it need repotting?

Most flower shops will probably have better advise than I could give. But I think from your description that TOO MUCH watering rather than too little may be the trouble. Also I remember something from the past about water accumulating at the bottom of the pot, so theres a sort of "drowning" factor that accumulates. But I would get some expert advise from florists before you begin doctoring them. Good luck, I love plants and are successfully growing a whole bush of some kind on my windowsill.

Sounds like root rot from overwatering. Does she smell like rotten leaves in water? Repot when you see roots coming out of the drain hole. Scheffies root in water, start cuttings.
