In the first one it usually means they think you are cute too.
But in the work example that you hate your own job!

lol it is funny when you think about it!

In the first sample of "me too," regarding someone being cute, I'd go with the nicer thought and assume it means the other person thinks I'm cute, too. People rarely blow their own horn in the boasting department, especially if someone else has already complimented them.

In the second sample, "me too" means they "hate" their job, too...because in that case they are agreeing with you and commiserating...it is no boast.

Ah, the American language with multiple meanings for every word and phrase, gotta love it!

If you say, "I hate my job", and I say "me, too", I mean I hate my job, too. If I'm given a compliment such as "I think you are cute", my "me, too" would mean "I think you're cute, too".

Interesting question.

well..a good example for wordplay :)

It just depends on the point of view.
Third person's view:
Thinking alike.... but the first sentence should have "I think" starter.
eg: "I think she is beautiful".... "Me too"

First person's view:
Here it takes a reciprocating meaning.
eg: "I wanna break" ... "Me too"

Second person's view:
Though it can be taken bothways, the best meaning goes with accepting the first sentence. ' I + adjective ' starter is reqd here.
Negative sentences - One way meaning
eg: "I think you will miss the train".... "Me too" ( yes.. i may....)
Positive sentences - Can be taken both ways
eg: "I wish you a happy journey".... "Me too" (same to you...)
eg: "I hope you will win the game".. "me too" ( i do think i will win..)
