It's been my experience that racism has two root causes. One is ignorance. A person is told to believe something, and never bothers to question it or seek their own experiences. Another is low self-worth. A person who feels they can never "measure up" seeks someone to blame. This is why hate groups like skinheads and terrorists seek members within the youth. Self-doubt is prevalent in the teen years, and extremest leaders exploit this.

A marked difference from you and your group is the root of racism. Many fear and are threatened by difference. Consequently, they must justify this fear. And racism is born.

Disrespect & ignorance & fear & hatred! We are not born with prejudice in our hearts!
You have to be taught to hate and fear
You have to be taught from year to year
It has to be drummed in your dear little ear
You have to be carefully taught that
We can un learn it too!
