I live in New Zealand too! Where abouts are you from? I live in Dunedin.
Anyway, I have about $1,500 saved up and I only started saving about 3months ago. I put away $100 a week, at least.
My Auntie told me you should always try and save at least half of what you earn. If your Mum gives you $10 a week then you'll have $10 for txting a month (I'm guessing you're on telecom) and $10 for other stuff and try and save the other $20. You'll have heaps of money before you know it.
I'm 17, I don't know how old you are but you could get a part time job if your parents let you. I work at Subway and you get paid $9.50 and hour before tax for under 16s. I know that New World is the same. Just see if they'll let you do a few hours on Saturday or Sunday.
My Mum doesn't give me pocket money but she does spend money on me. When I lived with my Dad he gave me $50 a week and paid for my clothes and everything.
I think for every NZ dollar, Its 1.5 US Dollars.

When i was 13 I saved up babysitting money. I would get like $50 sometimes for babysitting and put it away. When i turned 15 I added to that by getting a paidaide position at a summer daycamp i was volunteering at. I made about $100/wk for 3 months for 3 years and saved that. When I turned 18 my dad sold the house and it was in the divorce papers from my mom and him that I would get $5000 of that money. So I got that. Plus i was in a car wreck with my mom when i was 8 and so the settlement i got money from that. So when i turned 18 I should have had a lot of money saved lol but I spent it to get stuff i really wanted (and still have most of it at 28)
I would say the average teenager 13-16 gets about $10-20 for allowance for doing chores and if they babysit they may get about $20-50 depending how much babysitting and how many kids. Considering that age group doesn't pay bills that money could start adding up if they put it in a savings account that add interest.

I m 14 years old and live in Australia.I have $7360 saved in my bank account. I don t have a job but i umpire for my hockey club. I get $15 dollars a game and i usually umpire 2 games a week (so that s $30 a week from umpiring). My parents also transfer $10 into my bank account every week. I also get interest from the bank (i don t remember how much). My parents give me money for everything. They give me money when i go out and they buy my clothes etc. Whenever i get birthday money or Christmas money it all goes into my bank account. I put all of the loose change (the coins) that i have left over after i meet with friends or something straight into my bank account and i also occasionally put notes into my money tin. After 12 months of having the same money tin i open it and i usually have about $500 inside of it which i then bank.
I am also about to start looking for a part time job so then i will be earning even more money as well as the additional $30 for umpiring.
I m hoping that by the time i graduate high school i will have at least $10,000 AUD saved. (I think i can reach this goal in around a year although i do have 2 and half years left until a graduate.

Say word! So do I, i get paid around 150- 200$ a week and i always say I'm going to save it but i end up spending it all on either food, clothes, or just plain junk that i see. It's hard i know, especially for a shopaholic like me, but what you CAN do is get out and do something active, and don't go to the mall, try to find other hobbies to distract you from making any unnecessary purchases, or tell your parents to keep the money for you until you need it. Or yo ucan save 10$ and have 10$ to use each week too.

Well I'm 13, I live in New York, and my mom doesn't give me any allowence, nor does she pay me for doing work around the house. I'm fine with that, because I have regular babysitting jobs and I often take care of my neighbors plants and animals when they're on vacation. Since June, I've racked up $896 for doing simple jobs like that (I spent $200 the other day so it was much more). For pocket money, I just take about 10-20 dollars depending on what I'm doing/where I'm going.
I hope I helped you out =)

I'm 14, not old enough to get a job. But I do babysit and do chores.
In the bank I have like $660ish and at home I have $100ish. We don't get a big allowence (Only about $6 every 2 weeks) But we do get A LOT of Christmas money and my birthday is right next to Christmas so I get money from that too.
I am happy with the money I have, but as soon as I can get a real job, I'm getting one.

I am 17 and have about $8,500 saved. I babysit whenever I can for $10 an hour, and I have worked in a day camp every summer for the past four or five years. I don't often go on spending sprees, and when I buy something, I look for the cheapest seller (if possible). Of course, I still go out with friends and indulge every so often.

Thirty dollars a week and I have over a hundred dollars saved up (and I just went on a nice back-to-school clothes shopping spree). Also I babysit and get about 20-50 bucks a week from that.
But I'm not sure how US dollars compare to New Zealand dollars. And also I get a lot for someone my age because my parents had to compensate SOMEHOW for it being summer and them never being home-so I'm a shut-in, but a rich one. :)

I'm not a teen any more, but I got my first job when I was 13. I worked on a farm out in the corn fields for $4.00 per hour.
When I was 14 I got a retail job and started making $6.00 per hour ($90.00 per week). By the time I was 16 I had moved to a higher position and was making $7.50 per hour ($120.00 per week). Then when I was 18 I got a management position and started making $10.00 per hour ($1,000.00 per month).
My parents never gave me any money. We had a large family and they couldn't afford to give us spending money. Even though I had a job, I had to buy all my own school supplies, cloths, shoes, shampoo, and anything else I needed. So I didn't get to spend much money on fun stuff.
