The egg. The birds evolved from egg laying beings, dinosaurs or reptiles, hence the egg was first and the chicken became what it is later on in the evolution.

From the point of view of evolution, It would have to be the egg. The egg developed as an evolutionary adaptation of reptiles to propagate on dry land. it appeared long before the first birds appeared evolved.
