I'm well aware of the problems that pro wrestling has, especially the many recent deaths, but why are people using the "Benoit Case" specifically to bash wrestling?
Does the NBA not have wanna-be rappers/thugs getting arrested every other day of the week?
Didn't Rae Carruth of the NFL get convicted of planning the murder of his own wife and child?
I could go on with other incidents in the "true sports", but for the sake of my fingers and you're eyes I'll get to the point:
Why are so many "sports fans" coming after wrestling now even though the sports that they love and adore are just as dirty and filled with criminals, if not more?
Sorry if this seems random, but I've noticed it in a lot of answers to wrestling questions lately.

American Dragon: True...but I don't understand why some people don't realize that many, many terrible things are going on in their favorite sports/entertainment also....it's like throwing stones when you live in a glass house....STUPID.

Your Uncle Dogde- RAE CARRUTH HAD SOME ONE KILLED, DID HE NOT? THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILD??
And everyone knows that the NBA has a police arrest record as long as Mississippi River. Don't act like their all high and mighty.

Because pro wrestling was never that much respected to begin with. This is just a way to push it down further.
Besides, there has yet to be a sport that has had something like this on this high a level. The closest thing that compares is O.J., and he wasn't active at the time. Benoit was not only active, but one of wrestling's biggest stars. There's no real precedent for it.

Citing the Benoit case is the easiest way for someone uniformed about wrestling to argue against wrestling. To characterize all wrestlers as child-murderers is completely illogical, and I think most of the bashers already realize this. It's like saying all NFL players are dog-killers and all MLB players are on steroids. Those kinds of generalizations makes no sense.
Most of the Benoit questions I see are pointless. The logic behind them seems to be: if I can't use reason, then I'll appeal to shock value.

Yeah, I know what you mean. People think that because they watch some agenda-driven Benoit story on Jim Rome or Nancy Grace, they're experts. It makes them feel superior because someone with a little cred in sports or general life is bashing wrestling, they can jump on that elitist bandwagon. However, much like the names in the media, they have no clue what it means to be a wrestling fan, nor do they even begin to understand the business.
I don't understand the appeal of Nascar, but I don't go on that forum and post every time some driver has a slap fight with some pit crew guy, nor do I talk about rednecks driving fast and turning left. I leave them alone because they like it and I don't want to bring anyone down, nor do I want to look stupid.
I'm sorry if this didn't make sense. I tried to make my point without getting too wordy, but I'm not always good at that.

People above me have great points. I especially agree with armdrag&edgefan. Not many people like wrestling in the first place so when something huge blows up like the Benoit tragedy everyone will attack it. I just want to say that I am so sick of Nancy Grace. She acts like she knows what shes talking about when shes getting information from former superstars who left the WWE in bad terms. Nothing against Finlay but I wish it was Kennedy who was on Nancy Drew during the interview with Marc Mero. Finlay did a good job but Kennedy would have done better, Kennedy was great during his FOX interview.

This is a really good question. I just hope my answer is as good. The people who keep bringing up the Benoit tragedy, plain and simply don't have a clue, they know nothing about what went on inside that house or what the truth really is. They have to use it because they can't think of any other way to get a rise out of Wrestling fans, except to bring up something we are all trying to put way in the back of our minds. There is no justification for what happened, there are no real reasons why it happened. But above all that there is no justification or any reason to keep bringing it up. Let them all rest in peace.

Man, you know how it is! People are such bandwagon jumpers with nothing to do. Its like, they are just sitting there, thinking of something to do and then WHAM! The Benoit tragedy hits the airwaves. That person that was thinking of something to do now says, you know what, I dont know anything about wrestling, but I want to bash all of wrestling and its fans! Im willing to bet other people think im cool and join me in bashing wrestling fans!....etc. And the sad thing is, someone else that doesnt need an excuse jumps on board the bandwagon and before you know it, you have these guys on this site. Its neverending carlos! Its like having herpes! It takes breaks, but always comes back!!!!!

I don't know, but I agree with you. Every time something goes on in the wwe, Chris Beniot is brought up, even if it's not even related. It really makes me mad that when Brian Adams died, all I heard was people talking about Benoit. Can't someone who was a wrestler die of something other then murder/suicide or drugs? Maybe if you once had a contract with the wwe, they expect you to live forever. And when that doesn't happen, they have to blame it on something. People die and they need to stop comparing every death of a former wwe superstars to Benoit. People need to realize that the wwe cannot control everything and not everything is there fault...

Well, for starters, the Benoit tradegy was the easiest place to start with people bashing wrestling. They say that as an outlet to gang up and the media outlets, US government, other sports fans, non-sports fans, etc. jumped onto the bandwagon and began jumping on Vince McMahon and his company. The thing I don't get is reports were just released early this week about Benoit taking the testosterone (sorry if that's spelled wrong) for medical reason. It was a genetic disorder he inherited, but no one in the media will apologize for bashing the sport we love. No, that's not like them. They will not issue an apology over this. With the Wellness Program that was placed in effect as of last February, if everyone who loves to bash this form of entertainment would check on WWE, they would see how many people was released from the WWE since last year. They would see how many people they have sent to rehab, who have gotten better only to start at the bottom to work their way back up. Yes, there is steroids in wrestling, but the list of people who are dying are from the older generations of wrestling, where steroids wasn't as big of an issue as it is now. I agree with you 100 percent. The list of the other sports who have people doing illegal stuff, that seems to go unnoticed, or it's under the radar, but from now on, the moment something bad happens in wrestling, everyone is going to jump on the bandwagon and begin bashing it again. Look at Michael Vick. Yeah, he's getting heat about it now but it wasn't blamed on the NFL for his behavior, but Benoit's actions were? How does Chris Benoit's actions reflect that of WWE and how is it they are getting blamed for something he had control over and he did himself? It's not like they knew or it's not like they had control over th situation. This subject is so heated and controversial that all sides of the spectrum is going to have an opinion. Point blank and case and point, WWE and the wrestling world in general is NOT to blame for someone elses actions!

it is b/c all that they have seen is the very biased media coverage of the Benoit tragedy. and the opinion of former wrestlers who go on these talk shows that haven't wrestled for a long time. they are being manipulated by the media who for the most part hate wrestling.

I know exactley what you are saying. they didnt even know how respected chris benoit was because they dont watch wrestling. so they would not know what good things were happening before benoit's tragedy. they dont know anything about wrestling and benoit's case is the only thing they know about it. so they use it to bash us because they have nothing else to say.
