well I would say that if you think something nice about someone you can always be the person to give others a lift, make their day by having something nice to say with a smile - by all means say it ! - but you should mean it.
it's flattering but at the same time wins you friends and gets you the stigma of the person who always has a nice thing to say. there are too many sour-faced people and people who critisize others and everyone can use a little flattery once in awhile. basically there are 3 things to remember:
1. do to others what you'd like others to do to you
2. smile ! it's something you can give away over and over and never run out, it also is catching (if you smile people will smile back at you) and it also makes people wonder what you've been up to....
3. what goes around comes around - life is a boomerang - whatever you give thats what you get

good luck !
any others who read this answer are invited to share their thoughts on the above with me. -:)

I would prefer to be complimented - for instance, these examples;

1. What brand of tea are you drinking? It smells so nice.
2. That is a beautiful shade of blue, your blouse.
3. Your puppy is so well behaved ( I wish)
4. I must have your recipe for this wonderful banana bread.
