Are you referring to a D & C? It's not ovary cleaning. Dilatation and curettage is a procedure to scrape and collect the tissue (endometrium) from inside the uterus. Dilatation ("D") is a widening of the cervix to allow instruments into the uterus. Curettage ("C") is the scraping of the contents of the uterus.

I think you're referring to a dilation and curettage ("D&C"); it's not to clean the ovaries, however, but to remove tissue from the uterus after a miscarriage. Tissue that is left behind can bleed heavily, and cause serious blood loss. It can also become necrotic (die) and create a breeding ground for infection; both are good reasons to be sure that all the products of conception are removed after a miscarriage.

If you have recently suffered a miscarriage, my sincere sympathies on your loss.

It is called a D& C ( Dialation& Curettage) and is the cleaning / scraping of the uterus and cervix.
Dialation and curettage is commonly performed following a miscarriage or abortion in cases where the uterus fails to fully empty its content. It can also be requested after birth. It can be performed in a hospital setting using general anesthesia or in your doctor's office using a local anesthetic. An injection around the cervix will minimize pain or discomfort from the procedure and produce numbness in the area.
