With a 2-year warranty, I wouldn't be afraid to buy one. I highly recommend you check out a ninja 250, but the looks are a little dated on those. The site listed below should help you out.

I don't mean to be rude but I don't know why people ask these questions on here as you will rarely get truly informed opinion. It is clear that very few people who have answered know anything about Hyosung but because it is up against a Kawasaki are opting for the brand they know. OK so whilst in this instance I would actually consider neither of those bikes, if I was you however I would go the two dealers and test ride both of them. If they won't let you test then will tell you a lot about the dealer and their attitude to customers and thus support. Hyosung are a large Korean manufacturer who have invested a lot in production and new models with more to come. Kawasaki are one of the big four Japanese manufacturers with a great reputation and history but are more famous for their large capacity bikes. They do not churn out small engined machines in the volume of say Honda or Yamaha. I own a bike business and quite frankly I would say that with either of them you will not go too far wrong if they are what floats your boat. There are so many things though that should come into the equation, price, style of riding, comfort, service back up and so on. If you want more data then try to a Google search on some magazine road tests and try from around the world as well, not just in the UK and/or USA.

Well it seems to have a reputation as a daggy bike but I like it. :)
I have been riding one of the current model gt250r's for a few months and I love it for lots of reasons. Physically it looks like a bigger bike than a 250.
Also, compared to the Kawasaki gpx250 (or ninja if you are in America) I feel you can get to a higher speed in 1st without the engine screaming. You can go as fast as you need to for commuting, I've done 121km an hour on it no problems, that's fine for me.
Downsides are it is quite tall, which bugs me as I am 5'2. Also the service intervals are quite frequent. GRRR.
Only suggestion - I got mine second hand off of a guy who had had it for 6 months, so I still had 18 months of warranty, but that saved me $2000. I'd recommend looking around for a second hand one, as you will save a lot of money because they drop in price dramatically as soon as you ride away from the dealership.
Also, doing tight u-turns has become a bit harder since I got this bike but you deal with it. *shrugs*
Oh also the seating position is kind of crouched forward over the tank as opposed to the gpx upright position, this can be a bit uncomfortable and put a strain on your upper back if you have a long ride to work. (This is only if it's a long freeway type ride where you can't stop at lights/stop signs and sit up straight.) The upside is the actual seat is comfy and won't make your bum ache like the gpx.
The other thing that is neat is the display! You can get your speed down to the exact kilometre. It has the time, it even has a FUEL GAUGE!!! I have not run out of petrol or had to flick the switch cause I did the shake from side to side splishy splashy and thought I had enough to make the trip. What a godsend.
Overrall I'd recommend it. You'll have a blast!!

RE:
Is the 2008 Hyosung GT250R a good bike to have?
I am thinking about purchasing the new black 2008 Hyosung 250 bike and I just want something to have fun on and to just ride back and forth to work. I have heard that this is a great bike and it comes with a 2year warranty. Let me know what your thoughts are

Hyosung (also called UM in the US) are coming a long way on quality. I have a new friend that just bought a 650R, and it is a great bike.
I'd say this would be a great starter rig. Oh, and chopper - it is a Korean product, not Chinese. Koreans are now making some of the cars with the greatest customer satisfaction available.... even higher than the Japanese.

Many people, in answering similar questions, say they wouldn't buy one because of build quality, spare parts, etc. But HEY, if it's what you want, and you are not concerned about your street 'image', then why not?
I'll just add one thing I've noticed: You get what you pay for, and if you expect something as good as a bike twice the price; you'll be disappointed. Many riders trade up their Hyosungs pretty soon to something better; so if you want one, there will be some pretty good second hand deals around on current or recent models.

I'm assuming you would be buying this from a local dealer? A two-year warranty is worthless if you can't find anyone to service it.
