At times, I do learn from my mistakes (as well as bad experiences)...but it's only when/if I am actually ready to learn from them, and move on. After all, it's those "tragedies"...just like my triumphs in life...that make me the girl I am today.

Yes, I think we learn more from our mistakes and failures than when things are easy for us. At times when we struggle is when perspective grows & maturity attained .We learn very little (unfortunately) when times are good.We learn a great deal in times where we're personally tested. I guess that's why I've learned over time to really appreciate the peace and good times when they come.I don't take them for granted any more, even in small ways.

Oh, it totally does. Sometimes I see people fighting and in terrible situations, it almost takes them back to an animalistic point in history. That always makes me very emotional, heart-wrenching and I cannot for the life of me fathom why this disturbes me so much. However, this can also be said. It fills my heart with so much love for the world when I see people helping eachother, saving eachothers lives even, and looking after one another. This makes me very emotional and brings a lump to my throat. I think the key is to live your life and appreciate other people, for we are all here alone.

I would have to say that I do learn from my mistakes but when there is something I really want I make excuses to have it even though I know it's wrong.

At the core of your question is this simple answer.
Everything in life is a series of repetitions designed to modify ourselves and learn. In essence, mistakes are the biggest blessings we have. We make them all the time. They teach us what we need to correct.
It's practice that really does make perfect.

You may learn, but 99% that doesn't mean you'll act accordingly. Just take a look at history... there's too much truth to the saying, "history repeats itself"

it's a must to learn from mistakes, no matter if they are ours or other's. Learning from them is in order not to repeat them and suffer the same painful consequences, and to improve ourselves constantly. ...even if sometimes we might be blinded.
