im nuts about pets, but at first my parents didnt let me keep anything but goldfish.

however, i started with plants. keep a few nice and easy household plants and try to keep them alive. they are one of the closest things to a pet.

also you could research a lot on the internet. before you get a pet, you have to anyway. if you have a passion for pets, you'll find it really fun! when i was little i found good reasons why to get a hamster from my research and told mom and dad. "dad! did you know..." the more you get them interested the more they'll be convinced!

when they FINALLY get you at least a small pet, work your way up. i went from plants to goldfish to turtle to finch to hamster to parakeet. the size goes bigger as your parents trust you and realize you could really take care of pets!

few warnings are to make sure you know how much money you're going to invest in buying the pet and supplies. you're going to pay every month for bedding, food, vet check ups, etc. also make sure you dont get a boring pet. it may really excite you at the thought of getting a pet, but as soon as you have a few months, believe it or not, you'll get tired of it some time. some pets last a lifetime. make sure poor fido doesnt end up in the pound because you stopped loving him! be willing to dedicate a lot of time to your pets.

my mom was DISGUSTED by pets but know she loves them and smoochies them and actually offers to clean the cage! its really amazing how parents change their mind :D i dont understand them

but i dont think your parents arent as strict as mine. it doesnt really take much to show that you've got what it takes!

i wanted a dog soo bad (i even cried for one hehe). but my parents are very strict so i got fed up with it. your only choice isnt a dog! smaller pets are just as great :)

Hi, Crystal! I think the reason your parents aren't allowing you to keep a pet because you're not responsible enough! Or maybe too young (from what I saw, you're 12! but am not sure!!) or maybe since you have to keep it indoors, it might mess up your house or drool all over the place!!

Try keeping a small bird at first, to see if you can manage all that you have to manage when you keep a dog, and I am talking about a PUPPY!! If you fail, then you know the answer BUT if you succeed, then your parents might gain a little more confidence that you're capable of keeping a pet!!

Then you can convince them to get a small fish, like a clownfish. Take excellent care of that! and more confidence your parents will achieve! Then try a small kitten, if you do THAT one right, then you can be sure that you'll finally get your pet puppy! Good luck!!!

Dogs are expensive, and alot of work. Puppies expecially are expensive. You have to commit to exercizing and walking the dog, which is even more work when you do not have a yard.

You parents probably cannot afford the $300, plus all the other expenses that come with a puppy.

Puppies need: bowls, food, collar, leash, ID tags, obedience classes, toys, brush, shampoo, flea preventative, cleaning supplies, crate, bed, shots, dewormer, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, microchip, dog licence, spay/neuter.. those are just basics. The vet care alone will cost a few hundred within the first year.

If you want a pet, you may have better luck to convince them for something that is less maintenence. A cat, or a caged pet maybe, like a guinea pig or a rabbit.

I understand that you want a puppy badly, but since 1 you don't have a lawn;2.your country doesn't allow them;3. your parents won't let...ever thought that maybe getting a dog isn't the best choice? A fish or a gerbil maybe...besides, your going to have to pay much more than 300 dollars if you're willing to take him to the vet and feed him.
Your only other choice is that you wait till you grow up, move to another country, get a lawn, and buy a dog!

How about a cat? Since you don't have much a yard i wouldn't suggest However getting a dog is a big responsibility and the whole family needs to be involved in the training the animal. A cat on the other hand doesn't require as much effort from the whole family.

You might be happier with a friendly cat. They don't mind being indoors, they use a litter box (sorry you'll have to scoop!) and they will cuddle with you. Just find a cat that really likes to cuddle and shows lots of affection. Hopefully your parents won't be too upset if the kitty scratches the furniture etc... If you really want a dog, ask a friend (like one of your parent's friends) if you can borrow a dog. By trying it out, you could see if it really is a good idea or not.

I'm sorry they won't let you have a pet. Are you responsible? I mean in their eyes? Dogs require ALOT of attenion and can be very expensive up keep. Are you old enough to work some how to pay for it's expense? Sorry to hear your being deprived of a well taught experience of responsibility. I couldn't imagine it. Maybe in time they will come around. Good luck.

Pet ownership is a responsibility that comes with maturity.

You are acting like a spoilt brat!

You don't have a suitable home for a puppy, your parents don't want you to have one and while you may have the money to purchase one, what about food and vet bills?

Once you grow up and have your own home, maybe you will be mature enough to own a dog. ....... MAYBE!!!!

If you are that desperate for a pet, get a goldfish!

Tell them you'll be soley responsible for it. They just probably dont want anymore things to take care of. Why don't you start with something small like fish or hamster and prove to them you can handle it. Then ask for puppy once you've made you case.
