I think it's both actually. It's a coward's way out because it shows you can't handle what life throws at you. And it's also selfish because you're not thinking about how it'll affect your loved ones.

Cowardly, definitely. Selfish, maybe not so much in the terms of legalized euthanasia or if you have a terminal illness that causes extreme pain (AIDS, cancer, etc). If you dont have that and decide to kill yourself, then you are a coward because you couldnt push yourself far enough to see that things will be ok. My two best friends, my sis and my boyfriend have tried to kill themselves before and say it is still a struggle to find happiness, buth even these previously-suicidal people say that it is COWARDLY and they havent done it because they arent cowards, after all.

The person committing suicide doesn't think about anything except how bad their life is. They don't see any other option and it's sad. It's not selfish or cowardly...just sad that they feel they have no other choice.

Can't say that it's not cowardly, but for sure it's selfish. My husband's father commited suicide many years ago, and his family suffered terribly (emotionally and financially) and are still haunted by the question of "why".

Neither. Anyone who kills themself if very very sick honey. It's unfair to label someone who is sick enough to take their own life as selfish or cowardly. That's what I have to tell myself anyway.

Absolutely. Especially if you have children and a spouse who depends on you. You should face your problems and seek help. suicide is never a good solution.

Perhaps those left behind will view it that way... BUT... My thoughts are that it is a very permanent solution to what may be a very temporary problem (even though that is difficult to see through so much pain...)...

No. Who knows what hells people live? It is more selfish to expect a person to live a hell than to let them escape.
