Got for it. Get the size you want and just take it easy for a few days. I been riding for around 35 years and believe me as soon as you think you can handle it, it is going to get you. When I first bought a bike I rode it around in the neighbor hood at about 15 -20 miles an hour for a couple of days then when I thought I was doing good I went out on the highway and have been there since. It would be a good idea for you to take a MRC when you get a chance. That is a Motor Cycle Riding Course. Just remember you are a beginner don't try to keep up with the ones that been riding for awhile. You ride your bike!!!! As far as the size goes if you start with a small one then when you get the larger one you have to learn to ride that one also. I am about you size and I ride a 1500 goldwing and when I trade again I will probably go larger. Good luck and enjoy.

There are two guys that answered you that have no idea what they are talking about. 1st, Harley has never made a 500cc motorcycle although they did import some 125 & 250cc dirt/street style bikes for awhile and 2nd, Do not buy a Hayabusa unless you are totally proficient in riding, they are extremely fast. If you want something to tour with or just ride the streets with, there is an emerging trend towards Trikes. They are safer, no they do not tip over, and they carry more weight. You can ride comfortably on one a lot further and be less tired when you get there. You never have to put your feet down in somebody's oil or on a wet street. I love mine and I belong to two Trike Organizations that have a lot of fun. Trike Riders International and Brothers of the third wheel and they have rallies and get togethers all over the U.S. & Canada. They come in a lot of different sizes, 500cc on up and VW Trikes too. I hope this helps you.~desertrat

Brother, you opened a can on this one. Everyone has an opinion. Yes, you should take the safety course and invest in a good helmet. However, I am going to differ with many of these opinions in one way. Do not get a small displacement "good to learn on" bike. You will want to sell it soon and you will loose money on it. Get the nicest, strongest, most comfortable bike you can afford and take it slow. The bike does what you tell it to. Control it, become comfortable with it and start out riding in wide open, low pressure situations. No tight group riding for a while. Good luck.

My stock answer for a first bike is the Kawasaki Ninja 500. Reason: It has enough power to get you out of a bad situation without too much power for a beginner to handle.

I also highly recommend a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. www.msf-usa.org

Also throw in a good helmet with both DOT and ECE certifications and you are good to go!

I would suggest a midsized bike like a Harley 500 CC. That would give you the power you need and the size would be good for your weight. It doesn't have to be a Harley just 500 CC's to 750. I am sort of partial to Harley"s cause that is pretty much all I've owned.

Get a smaller cruiser. Sport bikes are just too much for a novice and should be avoided for at least the first year you're riding. But a cruiser is manageable, comfortable and stylish.
