how would you guys do a do it yourself costume for amber or her mother from hairspray..cause i cant really find a dress like that one

Go look for a short prom dress, it shouldn't be too hard. You may even find something great on the sale rack! All that jewelry was just back in style (melamine?) A place like Claire's accessories will probably have that, no problem. Even a big department store might have stuff on clearance as well. Look up photos, put a few on a page and print it out. Take it to the mall with you and have at it! It doesn't have to be exact, just similar in style and as long as your attitude is right, you're good to go.
