I'm 15. I can't stand rap. I listen to a various types of rock from softer Coldplay to the heavy rock, like Avenged Sevenfold. Sure, that's more metal, but I like it. Don't feel discouraged with your friends. Most of my friends don't get my music taste either. Most people I know it's all pop and rap. But I always think there's very little skill involved there!

Hmm. I can think of a few that are not only slow but still have that bit of rhythmic quality in the two examples you gave:

The Police - "Wrapped Around Your Finger"
Def Leppard - "Hysteria"
Journey - "Send Her My Love"
Boz Scaggs - "Low Down"
Berlin - "Take My Breath Away"

You can probably hear short samples of these if you search music.yahoo.com or amazon.com.
