I am.
They tried when I was in first grade - 1971 - but my mom put a stop to that quickly. She had been forced to learn right handed and it was a terrible time to her; she didn't want to see me suffer it.
The reasoning as to why has never been clear to me- I just know it was a national educational standard through the early 1970s.

Yeah, I USED to be a lefty. My parents forced me to write with my right hand and voila! Now I write with my right hand. But I still do almost everything else with my left hand, like holding my food, opening a door, picking things up, etc. My parents wanted me to change to being a righty (or at least writing with my right hand) because they thought it was "unnatural" and unique in a wrong way. Yeah I know, it's stupid. I would go back to being a lefty, but it's just been too long since I have written with my left hand... I just couldn't get used to it (in a short amount of time, anyway).

I'm a lefty too! In school they did try to force me to use my right hand but i was stubborn as hell. I guess they are used to the norm and don't want to teach the lefty kids how to write the letters correctly with their left hand since it differs in how the right handed kids write.

well my brother is a leftie and they didnt try to force him to write with his right hand. That's what they did back in the 1800's people thought they had an illness. And like many other l;eft handed people they are very good artists.

i am a lefty. as a matter of fact out of all my fours sisters and two brothers and my mother and father, i am the ONLY lefty. i dont know how the genetics work in that. Weird. i think my father was orginially a righty but eventually became ambidextrous, so i may have gotten it from him. No one forced me to write with my right hand, though.

Only politically....
But I do keep the fork in my left hand, using the right hand only to cut. Can't understand why some righties have to do the whole put-the-knife-down and pick-up-the-fork thing.
And I remember the 1992 presidential debate between Clinton, Bush senior, and Ross Perot -- all of them lefties. That was wild....

I'm not a leftie but when I was in kindergarten I was genuinely ambidexterous. My kindy teacher thought I was a freak & smacked my hand whenever she saw me using my left hand so I just kept using my right hand. I am now a definate rightie!

i'm a lefty. yes, people would try to take stuff out of my left hand and switch it to the right. i did have to adapt though, using scissors with my right hand (due to no left handed scissors) and using the mouse on the computer on the right side.
