The body shop. Are their paint jobs any good? I'm looking to get an antique car (late 60's) painted, but i'm not looking to pay more than $750.

. I've had several cars painted by Maaco, but it was the cheap $250 jobs and the cars were NOT valuable antiques. I was satisfied with what I got , but I had to do the minor body work myself, scrape off rust and prine those spots and beat out a few ents.
The black paint had a few runs in it and didn't have that factory shine but it was ok. It was in their shop 3 days, mostly drying.
You MIGHT get their top-of-the-line Signature paint for $750.
...One 'Review'; ... I am the estimator at a privately owned body shop and have a Maaco facitlity less than half a mile from our location. People come in our shop to inquire about pricing on a paint job on their vehicles.
Their jaws drop when I tell them our price on a paint job starts at $1500. They always say the same thing, " I can go to Maaco and get it done for $399." I usually do them the courtesy of giving them a tour of our facility and explaining the process and procedure for doing a "good" paint job ."

Maaco is a very low end shop and they relly don't do professional paint jobs. They do the chemical wash and then mask off the glass and trim and then paint over bird poop and rust and dirt and anything else still stuck to the car. Earl Scheib is the same.

You might find a guy that works out of his home that can do a very nice job for $750. These guys will sand it down (maybe wet sand while washing it) and make sure the surface is prepared properly so the new paint sticks well to the old paint.

You'll just have to ask around and take your chances but doing your homework will pay off when you find the right guy.

Good Luck!

They do a good job but, beware of Maaco, they will give you an estimate for the paint and another much more expensive for any dents your car may have.

if you are willing to do the prep work yourself they are decent paint jobs, just remember you do get what you pay for........ are you planning to keep the car then you might need to repaint it again if you just painting it to up the price then go for it. but be sure your prep work is smooth........ everything shows up after paint is applied.
