writing a love poem?

there is this girl that i really like and i want to ask her to be my girlfriend through a poem, any ideas?

If you're on speaking terms with the girl, then I'd say go for it...if you just "know" her, but aren't really on speaking terms, I'd say "don't" go for a poem until you are at least on friendly terms with her...if you do, it will come off a more than a little creepy. However, if you "are" on speaking terms with her, just write something from your heart, do NOT try to make it rhyme, just make it poetic. Here's what not to do, and what might work:

I love to see you here at school
And I would have to be a fool
To think my offer might offend
So will you be my new girlfriend

nope...the rhyme makes it sound stupid

so, how about,

My eyes can't help drinking you in
My heart won't listen when I say "slow down"
How many times has your smile made me weak
Or your laughter set my soul on fire
I'm just a guy who's crazy about you
And who's finally found the courage
To ask you to be his girlfriend
But wanted the asking to be as special
As believes you are to him

It's your call...(you know her best), but I think option 2 sounds more mature than option 1...don't you?

Just write things down. Start with whatever comes to mind when you think of her. Just write everything down, then work your way up. Take out what doesn't make the poem sound good and add things to make it better. Good Luck! I think it's very sweet of you!
