Up to 20 years with good care, or about 10 or 15 in the wild on average. The typical keeper, however, is lucky to get 5 years out of one since they rarely invest what is needed for a healthy life.

Turtles like these need to eat in the water, and only feel safe in the water. They can survive on land- other than the eating part... and mating, hunting, security, hydration, etc.

Practically, turtles should be forced to stay out of the water for less than about 2-4 hours at a time. They MAY choose to be out of the water for longer, but we should not force it on them.

Red eared slider turtles can live way longer than 15 years, some turtles will grow to be 50-70 years old. Most pet turtles die within the first year of captivity because people do not take care of them properly so only expect a long life with high maintenance and proper care.
