I've read the RPC1 drives can play all regions and RPC2 drives can sometimes play them? Is this true. Does my dell inspiron have a RPC1 drive?

I do not believe it will play the disk, but you can get a cheap all region player from eBay for around $30.

Some dvd drives in computers have the ability to change the region of the drive BUT ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF TIMES! Read disclaimer on the bottom!

I only recommend changing the region if you plan to watch only dvds of a specific region
Thus if you want to see if you can change the region,
WinXP
right click on "My Computer", and select properties
click on the hardware tab and select Device Manager
then click on "DVD/CD-ROM drives" your dvd drive should be listed here.
Right click on the name of the drive and select properties
one of the tabs up top says "DVD Region"
at this screen, READ THE WARNING before you click ok.

Remember even if you move the drive to another computer, or reinstall windows, after running out of dvd region changes you will not be able to change the region!!!

So its up to you if you want to change the region.

Because this is dealing with something that can only be done a limited number of times, I have to put a disclaimer.

Disclaimer: I refuse to take any responsibility to any damages / undesired operations that the above instructions may cause. I am implying no warranties / guarantees. You are knowingly following these instructions AT YOUR OWN RISK! By following these instructions you agree to waive any rights that would hold me liable!

Gas is likely the right one; not quite sure what was the thinking behind the other post.

A brand new DVD-ROM drive is not set for a region, after 5 plays of DVD in such drive, the Region Code automatically locks up to a particular region; so all that has to do is to put in another brand new DVD-ROM drive that is yet to be locked to a Region.

Now there's a pastime lol If the pc isn't virtually usable, then the main suitable element to do is to donate it, or recycle. no longer lots you're able to do with the liquid crystal demonstrate, yet i could supply it a shot on taking aside the motherboard and different chips and merely sell them. properly worth a shot XP sturdy success.
