My Dish DVR is getting old. How do I get a new one for free? When I call Dish they say they will charge me for a new one. Has anyone ever threatened to cancel their Dish service over their DVR and Dish agreed to give you a new one?

The correct term is "upgrade".
Ask for a dual Tuner or an HD DVR. You can't change it every year, but if you have it for more than a year, they may upgrade for free if you commit to at least a year of subscription.
