The remake of Casino Royale was set in modern day instead of the period in which it was written. We see this done constantly with the works of Shakespeare (Othello set in the ghetto, Hamlet in a gangster family, ...) It is my understanding that the makers of CR wanted to "restart" the Bond series, so this is not technically a movie you can place within the normal cannon of James Bond movies.

M and Q are not specific people. They are positions within the British intelligence community. Therefore it is possible it could be a female. Miss Moneypenny however is one of the great treasures of the Bond franchise and is intended to be a specific person.

If they do continue to remake the Bond series, I would love to see who they get to play Tracy Bond (The one, and only Mrs. James Bond, originally played by Diana Rigg - not yet a Dame at the time)

It's called a "re-imagining," meaning that the previous James Bond movies did not exist before Casino Royale.

You are remembering incorrectly... we shall summon the doctors to give you your pills, Mr. Bond.

That's what happens when you try to "update" a 1960s character like 007 to modern times, and use some of the same actors from the original run. It winds up making no sense...

It doesn't really matter. The core of the story remains, leaving little details to be filled in. Does it really matter if M is a man or a woman, because either way, that person's gonna do their job.

That is exactly why remakes of these movies should not be updated.

They ruined the whole continuity of the James Bond series.
