People probably think that about my man and I. He seems to be the nicer one when we are out in public. Its not that I'm mean its just that I'm usually quiet and people take that as me being stuck up or something. I like to sit back and just observe everything before I open up.

oh, did you meet my in-laws?!
She is SUCH a witch and he is usually pretty nice but after a while it makes you wonder if it's because she's so mean that he's nice OR if HE is an "enabler".After all you only treat people how you think you can- know what I mean?! He has like not repremanded her for treating others like utter dirt for all these years.
My honey and I DON'T want to be that way. We keep each other "in check"I wish more people would.

I think it has to do with the whole "opposites attract" thing. But really what fun is there in a relationship where both of your are exactly alike? I personally think it's funner when there are differences but you can still meet in the middle.
I totally agree with this since in my relationship my husband is totally the nicer one, and I'm the mean one. But hey one of us has to put people in their place.

i have seen that. I saw a couple today and they both seemed so sweet. that's until the man did something to piss her off. This poor, but sweet guy carried her purse all over the dang store. the thing looked like it weighed a good 10 pounds. he sat it on the floor when he sat by the dressing room and she comes out, sees the purse on the floor and screams " get that purse of the floor NOW. that purse cost me over 200 bucks and i never put it on a damn dirty floor. what where you thinking" people where looking at her like she was some chick on drugs. If she gets mad about that, i wonder what happens to him when he really does something that does not please her. poor dude.

I've seen it.
May not be so much nice vs. mean, but how long they've been together.
It does look like nice and mean, but all the couples I know probably bring out the best and worst in each other.
There are exceptions.

Absolutely...it's called opposite attract. My husband is the meaner one when it comes to service. If he doesn't like the service he receives, he winds up telling them. I on the other hand, don't like doing things like that. He's also a pain in the buttocks when it comes to agruing, so I just let him have the last say.

Perhaps when this occurs, the couple's relationship brings out the true character of the person.

I think that it depends on the couple; many of the couples I know tend to compliment each other, and either both are very nice, or both are very "not nice".
