I would be sad and appauled. And I would hope that we would actually go after the ones who did it rather than a nation of people who just look like them.

Reading some of these answers has depressed me.
Fighting fire with fire does not work.
For some reason Americans put themselves on a pedestal above other nations. "Some religious extremists attacked us, I say blow up the whole country they came from." I've heard so many people say crap like that. How do you even logically come up with that?
It's time we started treating other nations and other people (Third World or no) like real nations and real people. If we tried to cooperate fairly and respectfully there's no way things wouldn't change for the better in due time. But instead we wage wars, make false accusations and increase border control.
Stop ignoring the real problem, people.
And if there was a catastrophic terrorist attack I would be filled with grief and horror. I get emotional when people I don't know die from accidents. A huge amount dying over something as silly as religion (again) would be heartbreaking beyond words.

It would be expected. Al qaeda is presently planning a massive attack against the US, I would guess multiple cities simultaneously to overshadow the 9/11 attacks. On a recent PBS special America in the crossroads a former CIA Bin Laden expert explained how Bin Laden has all the Islamic religious authority to use nukes against the US. They have the motivation and the money to strike at the US again, and its not a question of whether they will but when.

Our actions in the middle east have created such a venom and hatred for America that young Mideastern doctors, engineers, lawyers are taking up the Islamic jihad. All I can say is that you better get your go bag, canned food, and water together.

I'd be very certain that Karl Rove had planned the whole thing, just like he planned 9/11. I know, I know, lots of people think **** Cheney planned 9/11, but they're a bunch of insane screwballs who don't deserve to live. (It was Karl, I tell you!)

I'd duck and cover.

I'd demand that congress rescind the 2nd Amendment.

I'd demand that George W. Bush personally tear down the wall that keeps illegal aliens from entering our country from Mexico. (There is a wall like that, right?)

I'd pretend the Jihadists are reasonable people, just like your average Harvard professor, and begin negotiating our unconditional surrender.

I could say the truth, that I'd be horrified and depressed and demand that we wipe out those pissant Mid East pukes once and for all, and that I'd also imagine saying "I told you so" to Pinch Suzlberger of the New York Times, but that would be like going to Neville Chamberlain's grave and yelling that he was wrong about Adolf Hitler. IT WOULDN'T DO A DAMN BIT OF GOOD.

(I'd yell at the NYT because they run the freakin' Democrat party.)

i wouldnt be the least bit suprised hell im expecting it to rain terrorist attacks from straight from the government roost lol. I was actually expecting somebody to say "oh Osama made the bridge fall" or some **** like that when it did. Its too predictable. if anyone points a gun a me they have the wrong hostage cuz ima keep fightin their *** until im packed with lead on the ground unconcious im not afraid of a gun. if anyone tries to stab me with a knife even, ive been stabbed before, like i could give a crap. I will beat the crap out of them or die trying. It a amazes me how much fear people have over this stuff.

I would be upset, like all other citizens of the US. I would be horrified and saddened at the loss of life.

I notice you picked a specific time frame--just before the elections. If that was done on purpose, to ask if it would affect my vote in any way, it would not. I will still vote the way I think best, and for the candidate I would most prefer to hold the title of President of the United States of America. My vote cannot be purchased with money, nor can it be purchased or forced by terrorism.

I would be as horrified as I was by the last one, but nowhere near as surprised. We already know that Al Qaeda is reaching pre-9/11 strength. I already blame Bush's Iraq policy for that, but wouldn't blame him further for the attack, unless it turns out he ignored a Presidential Daily Brief forewarning him of the attack.

I would listen VERY carefully to how all the candidates react to the attack!

And no WAY would I allow Bush to extend his term.

I wouldn't be surprised too bad we cannot guarantee Washington would be where it would happen. The knuck**heads fighting amongst themselves will not make us terror-proof. Remember divide and conquer, that's what happened to the Clans of Scotland. Lincoln's speech said "A house divided will not stand" So all our enemies have to do is slip a few things here & there while we're busy fighting amongst ourselves..

I'd want retaliation, and I know for a fact we'll get it. And I won't blame Bush no matter what, nor will it sway my vote in any direction, as the Spanish were duped into after 3/11.

Pledge loyalty to Bush, and insist on canceling the elections. Clamor for an attack on Iran, even if they are not involved. Support the war from home.
