It is always 4 things with the start up. Either the battery, loose wire, starter, or alternator.

If you jump it with the key on it blows the circuits. In any case it sounds like the computer although the switch is possible. I would go for the easiest first, loose battery connection. Especially if its new. Clean the teerminals real good also and put them back on securely, that's the most common problem. There's another smaller wire in most cases coming from one of the battery cables, Check that's clean and secure also or you'll need someone to look at it. I lived in small town and the local taxi company looked at it for me for free when I stopped her. Or a cheaper free lance mechanic.

IF THE DASH LIGHTS DON'T COME ON IT'S A FUSE OR IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM.
CHECK THE MAIN FUSE AND ALL THE FUSES FOR THAT MATTER AT THE UNDERHOOD FUSE BOX.
The easiest way to check most of the fuses is go to an auto parts store and buy the cheapest test light they have. Hook the snap end to the negative battery cable and turn the ignition key to RUN, NOT START. (where it would normally be when the car is running)
Take the pointed end and touch it to the BARE METAL that you will see on top of the fuses. 2 metal tabs per fuse.
THE TEST LIGHT NEEDS TO LIGHT UP AT BOTH OF THOSE TERMINAL ON EACH FUSE. IF ONLY ONE LIGHT UP ON A GIVEN FUSE THAT'S YOUR BLOWN ONE.
IF YOU JUMP STARTED IT AND CROSSED THE CABLE (POSITIVE TO NEGATIVE) THE MAIN FUSE AND POSSIBLY MORE WILL BE BLOWN.
IT AIN'T THE STARTER, IT AIN'T THE ALTERNATOR AND IT'S ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT THE IGNITON SWITCH.
WITH A LITTLE PATIENCE AND PREFERABLY THE OWNWERS MANUAL TO GUIDE YOU TO WHICH FUSE IS WHICH THIS IS SOMETHING MOST LITERATE PEOPLE CAN DO THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starter. Quick check, might not work but worth it. Reach underneath and whack the starter with a hammer. Might just be stuck. If that works, get a new starter. You're going to anyway. The starter circuit has a resistive shunt that directs all battery energy to the starter through a relay when you crank it over. That's why the dash lights go out when you turn the key.

If when you try to turn on the car it makes a sqeeky noise then your battery is not good.It could be that you don't have the right battery...you need Triple A if you have an old car as well.See if the battery conectors are not corroted when you jump the car.
Also you could have a problem with the starter..if you locate your starter and bang it with something (small hamer)while someone trying to turn it you can try that as well.

Classic dead and or dying battery. Occasionally the battery cable connections get corroded enough where they are attached to the battery to disrupt the flow of current in and out of the battery, too.
Check out that big hunk of lead and sulphuric acid (battery) under the hood and I'll bet it's a gonner.
Good Luck!
