Joan Miro was a man; a Spanish painter. It wasn't pronounced like the English female name Joan, though; more like Juan.

Joan is a girl's name in the USA and not appropriate for a boy.

That's my middle name, and I'm female. I've never liked the name. I'm all for being unique, but I'm not sure Joan will be a great boy's name.

I think you'd be setting him up for an awful lot of teasing as a child. The suggestion of Jonah is a good one. You could call him "joan" for short...at home and not in front of his friends.

I wouldn't do that to my son, nor would I recommend you do it to yours. Kids are unmerciful when they find something to tease another about. Just the teacher doing roll-call would solicit snickers and pointing fingers.

I would suggest separating the name Joan into perhaps Joe Andrew or Joseph Andre. Even Joseph Anthony would work.

Good luck!! : )

Joe maybe... but the boy would get teased for that name. you have to take into consiteration how mean kids are... my name is jaime and kids at school would still be mean and say i have a boy name. when it goes both ways... just think of your kid and if you want him coming home everyday upset because of mean kids at school.

Not a good idea. Girls can have boy names occasionally, but if a boy has a girl's name, they end up ridiculed and teased.
