canada- Mario Lemeiux (no offense to Gretzky)

usa- Mike Modano (HM Lafontaine)

This is where it gets tricky, it was czechoslovakia until the 90's and If I were to choose someone from the unified country it would be Stan Makita over any of the other two that I am going to name now

czech- Jaromir Jagr (HM Hasek)

slovakia- Peter Stastny (HM Hossa)

russia- Vladislav Tretiak (way ahead of his time, possibly best goalie EVER, HM Valery Kharlamov)

finland- Jari Kurri (HM Selanne)

sweden- Niklas Lidstrom (My mind assumed Forsberg until I remembered this gem, HM goes to Foppa)

germany- Heatley (its kinda cheating but he was born there...please dont pull a Hull on Canada now, HM Kolzig)

switzerland- Martin Gerber (he has a ring, HM Aebischer he got some nhl time, all you can ask out of Switzerland so far)

denmark- Janik Hansen (has only played in 9 games for the nucks but looked decent, HM I have no clue who else)

*HM= Honorable Mention for those who didn't get it

These are just my opinions, I would have picked a Bure or a Fedorov as my Russian but Tretiak and Kharlamov were the backbone to a russian team that was virtually unbeatable

Canada- Gretzky & Lemieux, I'm not going to start a damn debate over who's better again. So let's just flip a coin.

U.S.A.- Brett Hull (he has dual citizenship) If you count him, he is by far better than LaFontaine or Leetch.

Czech Republic- Dominik Hasek, this guy has had a great career. Jagr is a great player, but I don't think he is as much of an impact player as Hasek. Jagr didn't do jack with the Caps, but Hasek single handedly carried the Sabres to the Cup finals.

Slovakia- Peter Stastny, great player, definitely the best Slovak ever.

Russia- Valeri Kharlamov or Vladislav Tretiak. I'm leaning more towards Kharlamov, but we should flip another coin to be fair, lol. I'm surprised at the other answers here, Fedorov? Malkin? Are you guys crazy? I was expecting more knowledge of Russian hockey from you people! lol

Finland- Jari Kurri, Selanne was too inconsistent in his career, and how many points does Saku Koivu have? Kurri is the best Finn hands down.

Sweden- In his prime, Forsberg hands down. But as far as consistency goes, then Lidstrom beats out Sundin by a hair.

Germany- Dany Heatley is a Canadian citizen, even though he was born in Germany. I'll say Olaf Kolzig, he's a very good goalie.

Switzerland- This is a toss-up between Gerber and Aebischer, both had one good year, both sucked last season, both won a Cup, as backups. I'll say Gerber, he played for the worse team when he had his good year (Canes). btw, lmao @ BLUE!, Budaj is NOT Swiss, he's a Slovak! lol!

Denmark- Lars Eller, he's only 18 though, his stats are great http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Eller , he was drafted by the Blues this year, I think he'll be an allright player.

While I was typing this up, two other people mentioned Kharlamov, I guess we do have people here who know Russian hockey!

Like I'm Telling You, Torriani played in the 20s, and besides he played on the "ni" line, and he was not even the best player on that line, the other guy was, Panini or something like that. (Don't ask me how I know this, lol). Either way, none of these guys would've done anything in today's NHL.

Canada: Bobby Orr - changed the game forever

America: Patrick Lafontaine - highest points per game average by an American

Czech Republic: Vaclav Nedomansky - Would have been an NHL superstar in his prime

Slovakia: Stan Mikita and Peter Stastny, very similar players in style and substance.

Russia: Valeri Kharlamov, he had skills that nobody else had. Pavel Bure was a close 2nd.

Finland: Jari Kurri, no other Finn has done as much for hockey or played as well as he has.

Sweden: Sven 'Tumba' Johansson. In 2004, a poll picked him as the greatest Swedish player ever and still holds numerous records for the Swedish national team. He was named the best forward at several World Championships won by Russia. Sundin, Forsberg, et al are nowehere near as good as Johansson.

Germany: Erich Kuehnhackl. Allegedly the greatest player in the game. The New York Rangers and Montreal Canadians thought so highly of him in the 70s they offered him million dollar contracts (at a time Marcel Dionne was the leagues highest paid player at $350K)

Switzerland: Richard Torriani. Played on the Swiss National Team for 20 years.

Denmark: Jannik Hansen, he played well in the playoffs lasy year for Vancouver.
