Call your local Humane Society or Animal Shelter and see if they could use a part-time dog exerciser or something similar. If no one has a paid position, maybe you could volunteer a few hours a week and see if it turns into a paid position. Good luck.

Try the zoo or local veterinarians. Both often have volunteer programs so that you can get your foot in the door and learn about animals. They are much more willing to do it if you are planning to go to college with a major in an animal studies field like zoology. Some will have low paying jobs, but many of the jobs are on a volunteer basis. They still look good on your resume' and you will build up some contacts for the future, as well as references. You also might check with animal shelters.

If you want to know the best job in the world, without a degree, try out veterinary technician/assistant. you may have to start out as kennel person, but it doesn't take much to work your way up. There is a lot-of-on the job training, and it is a ton of fun! If you work as a tech long enough you can even apply to get a certificate. I started doing it before I graduated high school and i gained so much experience there, a bunch of my college work is a review.

If you are under 18 you may have a hard time getting a job working with animals. You may have to volunteer some time with a parent present. Check out any animal shelters in your area, many of them rely on volunteers to help with walking the dogs and doing kennel work. Its a great way to get your feet wet, so to speak. Plus, colleges love to see volunteer work on your application. Good luck!

If you want to get paid look for work at a pet store, vets office, groomer. I know that every animal shelter needs volunteers to walk the dogs, clean the cages, stuff like that. And if your state is like California then volunteer hours will help you with college anyways, let alone giving you a leg up with your potential major in college.

Contact your local Humane Society of ASPCA. They would certainly be willing to have volunteers. However...since you indicated that you are still in high school, they may limit your interaction with animals due to liability concerns. You might just get stuck cleaning kennels.

Another option would be to volunteer to assist at a local obedience school. There you would get familiar with different breeds and could gain valuable insight into understanding the psychology of dogs.

You could be a vetinary assistant which doesnt take many qualifications as you should be supplied with them when you get the job which would more than likely be an apprentaship. You could be a Vet, rescuer, work in a pet shop, work in a pound, on a farm, in a zoo. Lots of things!

Check out your local SPCA or shelter. They are always looking for help. You could also ask at Vet offices, pet shops, dog kennels, farms. It really depends on what you are going to major in.
