No wonder Bush's ratings are going up he is finally telling the truth. You left out the part where the US had to pull out because like Iraq, Vietnam was unwinnable.

It's the politicians; there are different politicians, and persons who want peace have spoken up long before to place the responsibility where it belongs. There is no blaming persons who were chosen from a "lottery machine" for the decisions of the echelons. If there were a draft; the response may have been overwhelminging, in favor of ending the war sooner, but this reflects more of a 'kinder, gentler America'. Let me say this: I am a peace activist, and I have about 2 Vietnam vets who stand behind me at any peace rally. They got spat on a long time ago. That doesn't happen today. ps: it's not just the left, but also an unresponsive right as well.

Point #1 is right, but the difference is that in Vietnam we fought one type of enemy, while in Iraq we're fighting mainly three.
Pont #2, the only thing we're limited by is enemy propaganda, and the politicians who fall for it just to spite President Bush.
Point #3 happens in every war.
Point #4 is wrong, because neither were "civil wars" since the sources of both wars were outside both countries.
Point #5 is pretty much right.
Point #6, in both wars the national governments had a lack of support from those who needed them.
Point #7, Truman, Ike, Kennedy, Nixon and Ford weren't from Texas.
Point #8 happens in every war.
Point #9 is wrong because WERE winning, and even Ho Chi Minh realized he lost the Tet Offensive, but could always rely on the false perception of what was going on to determine victory or defeat, which is also what is happening in Iraq.
Point #10 is wrong because while the troops did their jobs well(which proves we WEREN'T losing), they were undercut by Congress who stop giving South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia military aid.
And to LeAnne: The North Vietnamese DID indiscriminately slaughter their own citizens to further an agenda of hate and domination, and DID have intentions of being part of a one world government. But rather than the ideology of that governement being Sharia Law, it was World Communism.

Some good points - and some not so good.
For instance, both wars were not "undercut" by their commander in chief - Bush has been resolute from the start and has not waiverered in the least.
What I find most interesting is the fact that the liberals and anti-war zeolots in this country have reverted back to almost the exact same policies that failed our troops and the Vietnamese people who supported us.
It doesn't seem to bother the liberals a bit to throw the people who have supported our efforts under the bus - once again.
And for some important differences:
- The North Viet Namese never invaded our homeland
- The North Viet Namese never threatened to overthrow our government
- The North Viet Namese never indiscriminately slaughtered their own citizens to further an agenda of hate and domination
- The North Viet Namese never had intentions of a one world government under some obscure religious belief such as Sharia Law
- The North Viet Namese were not afraid to directly confront their enemies
It appears to me that these wars are only similar in the eyes of people who do not want to confront the reality of the threat that Islamic radicals present to the civilized world. They want to promote the allusion and bring the Viet Nam war back into the debate because they want people to equate our defeat in Viet Nam with what they have so passively accepted as our inevitable defeat in Iraq.
Perhaps Iraq isn't the right battle ground - and we have made mistakes - I can't debate either of these points - but I am personally very proud to know that the United States and her true allies have confronted these Islamic militants who have slaughtered so many innocent men, women and children. You're right - it's a war we will have a lot of trouble fighting. The enemy is deceitful, full of blood lust and thinks nothing of hiding behind defenseless civilians.
Do we simply accept the policy of defeat - perhaps even accept their demands and convert to Islam - or do we fight for our way of life? Surly you can't believe we can allow the terror tactics of these militants to fester and grow - to continue with impunity as in the past. Do not think for a moment that they will give up these tactics if they prove successful.

The biggest similarity is that both war efforts were hindered by pacifists ( liberals and some conservatives) who didn't realize that freedom must be defended and that are real enemies out there.

*****When are people going to learn, nobody likes war.***** The freedoms we have in this country are because we fought for them. Now, that they did cost lives all these years, we will continue to fight to keep them.
The real Americans believe in our country and support it. Once we shed our blood we stand united and strong believing we are the best and no one can take that away from us, ever.
Just because the word free is in freedom does not change the fact that it cost lives.
***Thank God you live in America and stop knocking us.***
