if you mean marrying someone instead of marrying you, then his love that he felt differs from the love that you have for him. he may loved you as a friend or as a sister while you thought of him as a husband material.

Love for him is just a feeling. He finds you attractive and wants to be with you. Real love is more than a feeling. It's commitment. If I say I love my child, but do not demonstrate that love by putting their needs before mine, I'm not loving them. If he says he loves you, but he's married, he is putting his needs first, not yours. That's not love.
