1) Don't be afraid to make new friends. Your roommate will probably be your first friend you make, but venture out! Talk to people in your classes and on your floor.
2) Clean clothes are overrated. Seriously. If you're running low on money, just pop them in the dryer for a little bit. You can make dirty clothes at least smell better for a few weeks? ;-)
3) Try new things!! Join some social groups. I went sky-diving. Don't just stay in your dorm all day.
4) Look at what the campus has to offer. Intermural sports? Free gym classes? What?

Freshman year is for fun. So study, but have the most fun since the classes are easiest. Dont trust advisors, 99% of them dont know what the hell theyre talking about. Dorms are really fun... if you have good roomates. If you dont, stay out as much as possible, its the worst when you get in a fight with someone you live with. Just make sure you suck up to the RA's... so they think youre good...youll get away with more that way. Oh and try to get classes that count for more than one area of the GE requirements, that way you wont waste as much time taking high school classes over again. Make sure you look at all your options for these classes too... you can usually find a fun one. Start looking for internships the middle of your sophomore year. They pay more than most jobs around and its a great experience to see if thats what you want to do with your life.
OH and biggest best tip.... buy ALL your text books online. The bookstore is a rip off.

HI! well i live in a highschool dorm, and i started only when i was 13. However, going through it all, and having gone through this with my older bro who is in college, i have a few tips for you:
-Bring either sound proof ear phones, or ear plugs ( dorms can be a little noisey when studying)
- IF you do bring food, lock it up(people get hungry a lot more often in dorms for some reason
- Lock all of your valuables!!!!! (people get bored, and want to go through your stuff)
- Get aquanted with your roomate, and keep um close, but not too close, b/c u want to meet other new people too.
- AT first, it is really overwhelming, but understad, that all these guys are starting new too, so you have a clean slate. Staychill, and clean up after yourself, cause even if ur roomate might not tell you how annoying you are, it is nice to do it once in a while.
:) I love boarding school, workload can be tough, but i am sure, you will do fine. Best of luck sweetie!

College is awesome for the most part. It's not like high school in many ways. Yes, there are a lot more responsibilities and if you fall behind, it's your own fault, and you'll pay for it. Just remember to have a good mix in your life and work and play. ALL work is going to tire you out fast. But all play, or even mostly play, is also not going to get you anywhere. Go to class as often as you can.. if you miss a day or 2 per semester, it should be fine, but DON'T make it a habit. It's so easy not to go, and then you fall SO behind. Make sure to have a friend in each class where if you're not there 1 day, you can email/call him/her. Also, seriously, don't forget to stay safe in every logical way. It's really important, especially on a college campus. You're going to make some good friends, learn some things, have some fun, and just generally grow up there. It's a good experience for the most part, as long as you keep a level head and remember that, as fun as being on your own can be sometimes, you're really there trying to make a better future for yourself. Good luck! :o)

That sounds so exciting! Bring papers, pencils, your schedule whatever papers they gave you at orientation. Keep in close contact with your advisor concerning your major and make sure you are taking the right courses. Get along with your roomate. Be clean and neat. Don't spend too much time in the shower. Take an alarm clock. Find a nice person to kinda show you to your classes or just around school. Have fun. That is the key to passing and you wont' be so stressed out.

Be open to new friends and experiences. Remember to keep your work ethic strong. Have a good time but remember why you're there and what you and your folks are spending all that money on.
I did not have a good high school experience, but college was great. I worked my backside off, seldom got a full night's sleep, and had the time of my life. The good part was, I knew I was learning a lot and having that good time then. It didn't take a zillion years and some warped memories.

get organized! seriously, it killed me my first year. get a planner and when professors give you your syllabus, mark all test dates and major assignments on it so you know when they're due.
in the dorms, communicate with people you never envisioned you'd talk to. it makes the year more fun.
go to class as much as possible. that seems like it should be given, but things will happen where going to class is the least thing on your mind. force yourself to go.
in classes for your major, thank your professor for the class at the end of the semester. chances are, you'll probably be seeing them again.
advisers have a set plan that they want you to follow. if you don't want to do it in the way they suggest, don't fight them. just say thank you and map your course out on your own.

Bring paper and pencils to your first classes, keep your door open on your floor to meet people, and most of all have fun. For me the first few weeks were hard, I was an out of state student and didn't know anyone. Once you start meeting people things become a lot easier.

Keep up with classes. High grades are easy if you don't get behind. Nearly impossible if you do.
Never neglect studies for a party. There will always be parties, but if you flunk out, you'll be too busy working to hear about them.

Woah! Party Central. Find friends that are old enough to buy alcohol for you (unless you are on the Eastern Side of the pond and can buy at 18). Brush up on your game, and watch the girls put out. I've heard that college girls these days are the easiest in the whole Earth's history.
