okay, well i've had ingrown (and infected) toenails of and on for as long as i can remember (im 14). ive had the surgery done before, just not by a podiatrist and it turned out very awful and painful. i felt the whole operation EVEN after he gave me 8 shots on each SIDE of each toe. i was scared to death!

so now, my parents have decided that i need to get it done again.... this time permanetly. im stil terrified, and i dont want to feel the needles go through my toe. its painful and i had nightmares for MONTHS afterwards and i couldnt walk on it for almost 8 weeks (which is VERY unusual). thats how bad of a job that doctor did. im not joking.

to anyone out there that has had this proceure done before, did u feel the nedles go through your toe? did it hurt? do you have any advice for me? please help! many many many thanks in advance.

oh nora!! i feel your pain girl! i had 4 infected toes with infected nails on each side of the nail bed! it stinks! heres the deal...dont freak about the surgery. its not bad! if you have a good foot doc. you will be set i promise. you feel a small pinch with the first shot and then after that its nothing! takes about 20 minutes tops to get the nail out. recovery is sooo mild! you can walk after...it might be a little sore but with the proper care of the toe and the right foot doc. you have nothing to be scared of. good luck and dont worry!!

I have had four of my toenails permanently removed. I know what you mean about the needles going into the toe. If the doctor does a proper job on where he injects you should not feel any pain during the surgery. As you said it was a bad doctor and now you have fears that the same thing will happen again. The surgery really needs to be performed by a Podiatrist, and ask around and see if anybody knows a good one that they could recommend for you. A good Podiatrist will make you forget the last terrible experience.

Once the toenails are removed you're not going to have any more problems and that's what you have to look at. Remember you won't have to have this surgery again.

I've had it done. Honestly, the needles hurt like hell. Worst pain I've had although I haven't yet had children. It is so worth it though! The amount of times you stub an infected toenail!!!

Maybe go to a different doctor though
PS. even with the local anaesthetic, you should be able to feel the surgery, just not pain.
