If you've already taken him to the doctor. Here are some tips to help with fever:
Lots of fluids.
Use a cool cloth on his head and back to help bring the fever down if it starts to creep up again. I usually just lay it on the top of my daughters head when she's running fever.
Strip him of everything but his diaper while he's running fever. By wrapping him in blankets and clothes, your insulating the heat, only making him run hotter.
You can rotate Advil and Tylenol.
Make sure you take all the meds the doctor prescribed.
Lots of TLC! I usually hold and rock my daughter most of the night when she's sick with a high fever.

OK, remember that some of this is your own helplessness that is making you crazy. The baby's body is usually able to fight the fever all on its own, and the best thing is time (since you've taken him to the doctor).

But, to help you feel more useful, you can do these things.

Make sure the bed is fresh, and the pillow too. The baby may want to sleep with you and Mom; you have to decide whether or not you want to do that. I'm all for comfort, but I know many people frown on that entirely. You may want to put a packet of lavender buds (you can sometimes find lavender tea bags in health stores, and this would work great) inside the pillow case.

When the baby is sleeping, don't bother him with remedies. Medicine may be necessary, but I'd say that's the only reason to wake him.

Make sure baby gets lots of fluids when he is awake. You might try lemon water (lemon juice diluted by lots of water), but don't force it on him.

You can give the baby a lukewarm bath, or just sponge him off with lukewarm water. You can do this while he is sleeping, even, as long as you don't bother him.

Also, they have those cooling pads available these days -- a strip that you stick on the forehead. They SAY these don't work, but my kids always clamor for them when they are sick. I think it's another comfort issue.

And of course, make sure the food available is tasty, looks good, and is in small amounts (more available if need be, but just a little to begin with).

I hope he's feeling well soon! I know it must be stressful for you, but remember, babies are stronger than they look!

fever is the body's way of fighting something--so unless it's a very high fever and the baby is not too terribly uncomfortable, don't do anything. i'd think twice before giving him tylenol too. does he really need it? is the fever preventing him from sleeping? remember also, that baby's body temp. is often a bit higher than our's. NEVER give aspirin to a baby. (or child under 12) a cool wash cloth and lukewarm bath are good.
When should you call the doctor?
Call your doctor right away if...

If your child is younger than 3 months and rectal temperature goes above 100.1°F

If your child is 3-6 months and rectal temperature is 101°F or higher

If your child is 6-12 months and rectal temperature is 103°F or higher

At any age, call your doctor right away if fever lasts more than 3 days or is accompanied by:

Unusually fussy, sleepy, cranky or quiet behavior
Confusion or hallucinations
Convulsions
Stiff neck
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting
Ear or sore throat pain
Diarrhea
Skin rash
Whenever you have concerns

If your child is over 1 year of age, and is eating, sleeping and playing normally, there is usually no need to call the doctor unless the fever persists for more than 24 hours.

Your doctor may give you additional guidelines for when to contact a healthcare professional. Remember to follow your doctor's advice.

Well actually you do not need to take baby to a doctor unless yuo are really worried.
Even if your child does have a fever, it's likely that it's not serious. Although it can be frightening when your child's temperature rises, fever itself causes no harm and can actually be a good thing - it's often the body's way of fighting off infections. And not all fevers need to be treated. High fever, however, can make your child uncomfortable and can aggravate problems such as dehydration.

The best thing is to strip baby off, place in a luke warm bath. Not to cold or baby will shiver which makes the temperature rise again. A washer on babies head will help cool them down. Best fo all panadol or nurifin.

tylenol
rub a cool cloth on his head that is where the heat will more likely escape out
keep lightly dressed probably best to put him in a onesie and cover him up if he gets chills
keep an eye on the fever my son had a fever one time and he actually had a few seizures with it very common so get that baby to the doctor as soon as you can.

A room temperature bath for little awhile. Give the baby some motrin or tyenol. Just let it wear a diaper for awhile. But love your baby. It might take time. But it get better. I wish you luck

Dress him in as light of clothing as you can, just a diaper if necessary, but be careful he doesn't get chilled. You could try a lukewarm bath, but again, be careful about cooling too much. If he's not terribly uncomfortable, just follow your doctors orders and comfort him as necessary.

I agree with dressing him lightly, and a luke warm bath. Please be careful about letting a fever get too high, because it can cause permanent brain damage.
