so my friend's basement was recently flooded due to the rain, and his computer suffered a bit of damage. i advised him to let it dry out before turning it back on. the problem was that the monitor wasn't display anything however the computer powered on and wasn't receiving an output signal from the computer. So I hooked up my laptop to the screen to confirm it still works. We installed a graphics card in the PCI slot but to no luck. any other suggestions as an option we can do to perhaps get it working again?
thanks in advance.

THE MONITOR DOES WORK!!! I TESTED IT MYSELF, AND ALSO LOOKED ON THE INSIDE, ALL THE INNARDS ARE COMPLETELY DRY WITH NO DAMAGE AS THE WATER WAS NOT VERY HIGH AT ALL, AND DID NOT SHORT ANY ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS. THE COMPUTER BOOTS UP FINE BUT DOES NOT SEND AN OUTPUT SIGNAL TO THE MONITOR.

Take out processor and blow dry the socket and pins. Reinstall processor. Try the bare minimum set up. NO HDD, FDD, CD drive. Be sure to install the small speaker for beep codes. You should hear the single beep. The bare set up should be able to POST and open BIOS menu. Otherwise, motherboard or processor may have been damaged.

**try another screen, it is possible (though unlikely) that the monitor just will not work with the system for any reason which I do not know. the hard drive may be damaged, but then the bios would still load, so maybe the bios chip was ruined, i suggest trying a new motherboard, also again the hard drive may be damaged so the OS wont work. check the motherboard for problems, i would have recommended to clean some of the computer parts with distilled water and let them dry throughly and try it again, this might not work, but it is pretty much the only other thing i can think of.
**I hope what I had to say was helpful, but anything I recommend are just that recommendations, try anything I say at your own risk.**

The monitor is not the problem. It was not under water. The CPU suffered an insult it cannot recover from. Water borne impurities have corrupted delicate connections and might have damaged the mechanical drives in the hard drive and CD-ROM. drive. You could just wait a few weeks and see if it dries out enough but I suspect the CPU is junk. When you installed the PCI did you notice the haze of scum on the motherboard leftover from the dirty water evaporating? Big problem! It contains minerals and trace metals that can short out microchips. Time for a new machine. Be sure to remove the hard drive and destroy it so it can't be used against you.

It will take a while to dry out. Set up a couple small fans around it to stir the air. The monitor will take the longest to dry. Turn both on and let them run so that they dry internally. A dehumidifier would help. Computers are resilient. I had one that was out in the rain and it dried out. The only thing you might have to replaces is the internal battery - and the monitor new, used, whatever if the light doesn't come on after a few days..

Pull all the cards and RAM. Clean contacts with alcohol or electrical contact cleaner. Do the same for hdd and other disc connections. The hard drive has a tiny vent, which could let water in. If that's the case, you need to try another drive or use the CD to boot with, provided it's lens is clean and functional. Mine was flooded in 2002. I'm still using it.

Call in a technician. Graphics card may be bad or not properly sitting in the slot. Hard drive may be damaged.
