could it be staying there?

have be found ourselves in a position where there is no right answer?

who got us into this mess in the first place and who continues to stonewall the american people's desire to end this debacle and get on with the real war and who knows, maybe a little payback for 9/11 - which we will NEVER GET IN IRAQ!

sorry netir, but this gloom and doom prediction that you have made is what is happening because we went there in the first place.

every day we stay in iraq we do iran's bidding.

by the way, iran had nothing to do with 9/11 either.

do justly walk humbl - you may not think that getting a little payback has anything to do with our war - but I SURE DO!

Iraq?

guess what? - i DON'T CARE ABOUT IRAQ! not today, not tomorrow, no matter what happens there!

why?

BECAUSE WE WON'T GET ANY PAYBACK FOR 9/11 THERE - EVER!

there was a banner hung in NYC shortly after the towers were destroyed - it was handmade and it read:
"WE WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"

i won't either forgive or forget - until every last parasite involved in the 9/11 attacks is pushing up daisies.

PERIOD!

The Iraq chaos, which we instrumentally helped foment, will probably spread and destabilize the entire Middle East -- a momentum that has already begun. By removing that despicable autocrat, Saddam Hussein, we conveniently did Iran's work. There's no stopping the jockeying of power now -- Iran eyeing Iraq's Shiite territories; Turkey ready to smash the independence movement among Kurds (who have been playing the United States for a fool).

But next time around, we will hopefully have the support of other powers in the region, such as Saudi Arabia (a corruption-riddled regime with strong Bush ties), which can't afford the implosion of Iraq. Meanwhile, the massacre of our soldiers, along with the waste of billions of our tax dollars, must stop. There is no clear way to define "victory" in this folly -- which tried to jump-start Western democracy in a country with none of our long traditions of civil law or free speech.

We need to rest our military and return our overextended National Guardsmen to their families. We must conserve our resources and rethink our global strategy against terrorism. Homeland security must be radically strengthened, above all at our ports. Emergency evacuation and relief plans for major cities such as New York are still pathetically rudimentary. We should take care of our own business before trying to run everyone else's.

There never was a right answer to Iraq. Deposing that bastard Saddaam did what Iran and the terrorists wwanted. Trying to install democrcay in a country that has no tradition of it is like trying to teach a baby to walk and algebra all at the same time.

Simply put, Bush and Congress got us into this mess with no strategy if it went South. The military and civilian planners of the war underesdtimated how much the Iraqies wanted freedom and the tenacity of the insurgents and terrorists.

Now it is the democrats who continue to stonewall the effort to win and get out. In essence they keep us from getting revenge for 9/11. But in a larger sense Iraq is the remaint of Bush's first failed foreign policy, one that if we fail to close will have distasterous consequences for us and the world.

But if we leave Iraq Iran moves in. And if Iraq gets Iran they esentially hold a stranglehold on the entire Middle East and Israel.

Saddam Hussein created this mess, and the fanatics we're fighting are the ones who want to use Iraq to make new ones. Iraq IS part of "the real war" because it WAS a sponsor of terrorism, regardless of the fact that they had nothing to do with 9/11. Osama Bin Laden had a branch of Al-Qaida in Iraq BEFORE we overthrew Saddam's regime, so you're wrong about us not getting payback against them in Iraq. Also, just because we've got troops in Iraq, doesn't mean we DON'T have them in Afghanistan anymore. "every day we stay in iraq we do iran's bidding?" That's a lie, because Iran is backing their own fanatics to kill our troops and ovethrow the Iraqi government.

Leaving Iraq isn't going to worse for America & US troops who want to live, in the long run. There will be a bloody civil war in Iraq if US troops leave but that kind of civil war has been going on between the Sunnis & Shiites for over 1500 years only Bush's invasion & getting rid of Saddam ignited the civil war once again & the only way to solve it is to let them fight it out. And with about 30 Million Iraqi Shiites & Kurds the civil war should be relatively short against only about 5 million Sunnis who actually make up the majority of the insurgents in Iraq.

if Iran takes over the region and (years down the road)decides to put another ideological militant (like gw bush) in power : /

... is it too late to ask what was our plan in the first place?

It is worse to leave before the job is complete. Believe it or not, there could be a worse leader to arise than Hussein. We have to somehow stabilize the country, and then leave as soon as possible. Payback has nothing to do with it, as an evil regime in that country will affect the world over. It sounds as if you have already formed your opinion, however.

Its interesting to watch those ready to lose in Iraq after 4 years instead of getting serious about it and winning. When you compare winning (which means leaving behind a government that can take care of itself and its people) to losing (which means handing control of a nation over to Islamic extremist (Iran)). I wonder if those so bent on defeat are ready for the consequences? The return of the acid pools, the mass murder of those who merely wanted peace, and the rise of an Islamic extreme nation with close enough ties to Iran that it can be used to export terrorism without puting Iran at risk.

Leaving Iraq will render every soldiers death there in vain. Vietnam was only a disaster because it was abandoned, we could have won there, and we will win in Iraq. Having a real islamic ally in the middle east is imperitive to the future of US relations in the region.

For the people on YA it will be the worst thing, because they won't have anything to blame on Bush anymore.
