Liberals seem to bring to mind peace loving hippies.

Conservatives seem to mean stingy and greedy thugs.

Progressives believe in progress.

I don't subscribe to labels. I want to debate and argue peacefully and intellectually. I believe in open discussions and sharing information. I believe that no one has all the answers but maybe together we can find the truth.
I believe strongly in universal education and universal healthcare. We all need it. We all should pay for it. It would make it easier for people to change jobs as needed, like when the economy changes. Remember the IT craze and now it's the healthcare craze. What's next?

It seems many Republicans are furious that a study was done with a $1.2 million federal research grant, but they would have been irked in any case that three university professors have published a report finding that right-wing conservatives need a shrink.

The psychoanalysis of the G.O.P. would not have gotten much attention if it had not been given headline play in the right-wing journal National Review. One of the magazine’s writers, the outraged Byron York, gave the study by the scholarly trio professors at Stanford, the University of California and the University of Maryland some publicity under the headline: Conservatives are Crazy.

The professors’ conclusions:

Political conservatism is significantly associated with mental rigidity and closed-mindedness, including
(a) increased dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity;
(b) decreased cognitive complexity;
(c) decreased openness to experience;
(d) uncertainty avoidance;
(e) personal needs for order and structure; and
(f) needs for cognitive closure.

If that's not enough, they went on by citing conservatives’ low self-esteem; fear, anger, and aggression; pessimism, disgust and contempt.

There is no change. These days it seems we like to change the name of something when it's connotation appears to be bad or negative. But, it's the same people. New name - same old rhetoric. So far conservatives have not been intimidated by what they are called...good or bad. That shows character. Contrast that with the other side. They can not sell their ideology straight up so you change what you're called so you can sell the same junk in a new package. It gives you a little time to fool people until the people catch on to that.

i label myself none of those. all i care is why those so many different party's, all of them for once in their miserable liefs, can not, or will not come up with one good solution, for all of us.

instead of calling each other names and labeling each other
why don't we all do something sensible, dissent, healthy,for the good of our country.

just for once.

if our leaders put aside there selfish reasons, maybe there will be hope for our future and our country.

the day that all this politicians, leaders, congressman / or woman realize when they all die none of them can take anything with them in to there graves.

all of those profits that they have made on the back of our
regular folks will stay behind.

if and when they realize this then may be there will be hope
for the rest of us.

Liberals are peace-crazed idealists who believe that Americans can think for themselves.
Conservatives believe everyone should worship the same way and allow church into affairs of state.
Progressives are ready for a change, so changed their name.

Oh honey, I am a progressive. I find that radicalism breeds radicalism and Bush has lead me to it!

Liberalism, if ever firmly entrenched in America, will not last past the first attack. Should that come to pass, buy your prayer mat and get ready to face Mecca five time a day - and ladies, too bad for you.

Position yourself as you will. Having read these answers so far, there appears to be little intellectual honesty to this.

To quote one answerer; "libs care about other people", that's because they'll give away the shirt off of someone elses back!

"cons are about themselves and their wallets" is because so many liberal programs and bureaucracies are looking to empty it in service to THEIR agendas.

The real argument comes down to weather you want more taxes, less freedom and more people dependant on government for their existence.

Ronald Reagan said it best; Government isn't the solution to any problem, government is the problem!!!

Remember this rule of thumb; liberals feel while conservatives think.
